Monday’s storm may have included a tornado

Severe storms that moved through Taylor County on Monday morning may have included a tornado.
“Taylor County Emergency Management is actively assessing the impact of severe storms that struck the Town of Holway Monday June 17, 2024. Reports and video evidence from witnesses suggest the possibility of a tornado in the area,” said Daniel Gellert, Taylor County Emergency Management Director.
National Weather Service has been engaged to determine the exact nature and intensity of the storm.
“We are currently collaborating closely with the National Weather Service to confirm whether a tornado indeed touched down in Holway,” Gellert said. “It is important to stay aware of changing weather conditions. Have at least two ways to receive warnings and alerts.”
Storms moved through the area on Monday bringing with it torrential rainfall and strong winds. There were branches and trees reported down throughout the area. The town of Holway was the hardest hit area resulting in considerable damage across various parts of the community.
“Fortunately, despite the intensity of the storm, there have been no reported injuries,” Gellert said.
Emergency response teams, including local fire departments and law enforcement agencies, swiftly mobilized to assess and address the situation. Efforts focused on clearing debris and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
Preliminary reports indicate that a farm on County Road DD had sustained substantial damage, ranging from fallen trees and structural impacts. Other areas in Taylor County have been affected, including localized flooding, down power lines, and power outages.
