By Ginna Young

Cadott’s Red Sox Baseball team faced on with a non-league team in Abbotsford to begin the weekend, then hosted the Eau Claire Cavaliers, in a double header.

June 9 vs. Eau Claire Cavaliers (W 9-7)

In game one of the stand, the Cavs struck first, with a three-run first inning, but Cadott answered back in the botton of the inning, with three runs of their own. The Sox also added two more runs in the next inning.

Scoring dried up for both teams in the third, but the bats came alive again in the fourth inning, when the Cavs had four runs cross the plate. The Sox refused to go down and brought in four runs of their own, to seal the 9-7 win.

Warren Bowe was on the mound for the Sox for four innings, allowing 4 hits and 7 runs, while striking out 3. Tyler Iverson then took over, pitching three innings, and giving up a hit and punching out four batters.

“Luke Erickson hit his first career homerun in game one this week,” said manager Rick Danielson. “He is hitting 524 on the season, with 10 RBIs so far.”

Erickson ended the day with 3 hits, followed by Leo Lauscher and Jack Redwine, with 2 each. Coming up with a hit each, were Jack Kein and Jonah Hanson.

In the next game, it was a slow start to the match-up with neither team scoring in the first inning. The Cavs came to life in the second, putting two runs in the second and another in the third inning.

Cadott got on the board in the fourth inning, with a lone run, while the Cavs added three more runs in the fifth inning. The Sox rallied in the sixth inning, down 6-1, with a grandslam homerun from Carter Hesselman, his first career homer, but it wasn’t enough, as the Cavs walked away with a 6-5 victory.

“We couldn’t quite rally to take the lead,” said Danielson.

Zack Thiesse was at the helm for Cadott, going all seven innings, giving up 11 hits and 6 runs.

Offensively, Hesselman, Lauscher and Carter Kron all had a 2 hits, with Erickson and Redwine each chipping in with a hit.

The Red Sox now sit at 6-4 on the year, at the halfway point of the season.
