Athens senior Jazelle Hartwig obtained her 1,000th dig on Tuesday night during her team’s straight sets WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinals home win against Port Edwards. She also has 1,000 kills and 1,000 assists in her high school career.

The No. 2 seed Bluejays won sets by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-10 against the No. 15 Blackhawks.

Athens junior Danica Diethelm led the team with 11 serve aces and 30 serve assists. Senior Sophia Coker paced the Bluejays with 12 kills and Jazelle Hartwig added 10. Sophia Coker led Athens with two solo blocks and sophomore Sy’Rih Hartwig also had a solo block.

Jazelle Hartwig paced the Bluejays with 12 assists and her younger sister, Sy’Rih, had 11 assists. Freshman Karly Eckert and Jazelle Hartwig had seven digs apiece.

Athens improves its match record to 27-11 this season and now plays a home WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal match at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 19, against No. 7 seed Pittsville.

Top seed Tigers win

No. 1 seed Stratford downed No. 15 seed Necedah in straight sets during Tuesday’s home WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinals match. The Tigers beat the Cardinals by set scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-12.

Junior Kalyn Schueller led Stratford with 14 kills, eight aces and 12 digs. Juniors Daisy Yoder and Mckenzie Novotny added four aces each. Junior Emerson Roy paced the Tigers with 10 set assists and junior Laney Pankratz had eight. Novotny contributed 11 digs.

Stratford improves its match record to 25-10 this season and now plays a home WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal match at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 19, against No. 8 seed Nekoosa.

‘Cats, Raiders will meet

Both the Edgar and Marathon volleyball teams beat their WIAA Division 3 opening-round playoff opponents in straight sets on Tuesday night.

No. 5 seed Edgar downed No. 12 seed Neillsville at home by set scores of 2518, 25-20 and 27-25. No. 4 seed Marathon defeated No. 13 seed Bangor at home by set scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-23. Individual player statistics for both teams were not available when the newspaper was printed.

This sets up a showdown between arch-rivals Edgar and Marathon at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 19, in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinals match at Marathon High School. Both teams have 15-11 match records this season.
