After losing their April 19 meet at Stanley-Boyd due to weather, the Rib Lake track and field teams were back at it Thursday, winning 12 total events in a dual meet at Marawood North rival Phillips.
The girls got eight of those wins while getting outscored by the much deeper Loggers 272.5-148.5. The boys got three individual wins and another from the 3,200-meter relay team in their 285-138 loss.
For the boys, Jack Regier ran the 400-meter dash for the first time this spring and won it in 58.69 seconds, edging Logger Treyvon Christl by 0.41 seconds. Elijah Scott also ran the open 400 for the first time and took third in 59.86 seconds, while Riley Johnson (1:05.86) was fourth.
Kaleb Scott won the 1,600-meter run in 5:06.88, while teammate Henry Regier took second in 5:07.73 as they easily separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Truman Smith (5:34.23) and Connor Highfill (5:40.15) were fifth and sixth for the Redmen.
The Regiers and the Scotts again teamed up to give Rib Lake a win in the 3,200-meter relay. They finished in 9:09.35, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the Phillips team (9:19.02). Elijah Scott, Kaleb Scott, Jack Regier and Isaiah Hubbard added a third-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay at 4:02.61 behind two Phillips teams that came in at 3:56.73 and 3:58.71.
Jed Henderson was Rib Lake’s other winner as he again cleared 5 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump.
Smith and Highfill also did well in the 800-meter run, taking second and third in 2:31.91 and 2:35.57, respectively.
In the field, Gus Zuleger went 31-4.5 in the triple jump to take second behind Jonathan Parker (36-2) of Phillips. Seamus Highfull took third at 30-9.75. Zuleger also placed third in the long jump by going 158. Seamus Highfill (13-7), Johnson (13-6) and Allan Head (12-7.5) were fifth, sixth and seventh. Hubbard was fifth in the discus at an improved 74-8 and Henderson was seventh at 70 feet. Hubbard (24-10) and Clinton Peterson (22-11) were seventh and eighth in the shot put.
Back on the track, Demetrio Garelli was fourth in the the 100-meter (13.05) and 200-meter dashes (26.16). In the 100, Zuleger (13.3), Ryley Schatz (14.09) and Head (14.82) were seventh, eighth and 10th. In the 200, Seamus Highfill (27.88) and Henderson (28.04) were eighth and ninth.
For the girls, Olivia Lopez again earned long jump and triple jump wins for Rib Lake and she took the 200-meter dash as well. Her 200-meter time of 27.55 seconds was her best of this season and beat Logger Sarah Knaack by 0.33 seconds. Kloey Paul was sixth for Rib Lake in 31.91 seconds and Anna Martin (35.43) was eighth.
Lopez and teammate Emma Tlusty were the top two long jumpers with distances of 15-4 and 13-7. Martin added sixth-place points at 9-10.5. Lopez went 32-3 in the triple jump to beat Logger Addie Gabay (27-6.25).
The team of Isabelle Gumz, Tlusty, Maddie Rademacher and Lopez finished its 400-meter relay race in 56.11 seconds to win by 0.5 seconds over the best of three Phillips teams. Also on the track, Tlusty improved by a tenth of a second in the 100-meter high hurdles and won in 18.41 seconds, while Gumz was second in 19.08 seconds and Rademacher was fourth in 19.76 seconds.
Paul was sixth in the 100-meter dash at 15.2 seconds, Hadassah Nelson (16.05) was eighth and Martin (16.3) was ninth.
Rademacher cleared 4-6 in her first high jump competition and won it over Nelson (4-4) and Paul (3-8). Rib Lake scored well in the throws too. Gumz won the shot put at 28-1, Tessa Krause was third at 25-7, Camryn Glenzer was fifth at 23-8 and Coralee Glenzer was seventh at 21-8. Coralee Glenzer and Gumz were the top two finishers in the discus at 71-7 and 67 feet. Glenzer improved by 13.5 feet. Krause was seventh at 53-8 and Tlusty was eighth at 51-3.
