Twenty volunteers wanted for Cancer fund campaign
The American Cancer Society urgently needs 20 local volunteers to assist in its 1954 fund crusade which opens here April 1.
Hopperdietzel to take over appliance business
On April 1, Walter Hopperdietzel will take over the appliance, television and bottle gas business which was part of the Coast-to-Coast store, owned by Lowell Dorn. Hopperdietzel has been employed by Dorn for a number of years and will have Dick Nikolai working with him.

New Colby Elementary School proposed
Joe Boettcher, administrator of the Colby School District, Jim Gabriel, architect and Dr. James Murphy, Elementary school supervisor, spoke to the persons attending the informational meeting concerning the proposed new lower elementary school building, up for a referendum vote in the April 2 election.
Gus Wenzel to compete against Finnish wrestler
Gus Wenzel, Colby High School state champion wrestler, will meet Timo Saaksmaki in a match Tuesday, March 26 at Stevens Point as a part of the United States Wrestling Federation.
AHS students receive “A” rating at forensic meet
Paul Nikolay, Jane Polnaszek and Doug Lueth all received “A” ratings and will be heading to the district contest at Stevens Point on March 30.

Joint committee discusses police space needs
It was the consensus of those attending a joint Colby-Abbotsford planning committee meeting this week that the police department needs more elbow room. What wasn’t decided is exactly how much extra space, and where it will be located.
Special ed aid freeze puts squeeze on local schools
For the sixth year in a row, the State of Wisconsin will freeze the amount of aid it gives local special education programs. Abbotsford’s special ed budget has increased 10% to 12% in each of the last three years.
Colby High bowlers advance to state tourney
Colby High School Bowling Club won its last match of the season and joined Marathon and Marshfield High School Clubs for a trip to the First State Bowling Championship to be held March 27 at Appleton. Team members include Yvonne Fielder, Jerad Gosse, Greg Epping, Brandon Schilling and Brian Hanson.
