SCG wrestlers compete at conference tournament
The Spencer/Columbus Catholic/Granton (SCG) wrestling team traveled a short distance to compete at the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament Saturday in Neillsville, with one wrestler taking second place in his weight category.
Wyatt Karl of SCG took second in the 215-pound weight class, after losing to Axel Tegels of Cadott in the first-place match by fall (5:42). He pinned Aiden Burt of Abbotsford/ Colby in the quarterfinal in just 17 seconds and pinned Gavin Lofgren of Regis/Altoona in the semifinal in 1:18.
Other SCG individual results were as follows. Gavin Andrew (120) took fourth place. He lost to Rydge Tibbett of Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal (NGL) in the quarterfinal by fall (0:40), but defeated Stephen Lin of Stanley-Boyd in the first consolation round (fall 0:48) and Evan Lallemont of Cadott in the consolation semifinal by fall (3:50). He then lost to Tibbett once more in the thirdplace match, by fall (0:54).
Mason Dieringer (175) took fifth place. He lost to Colin Lofgren of Regis/Altoona in the quarterfinal by fall (5:29). He then received a bye in the first consolation round. In the consolation semifinal, he lost to Jacob Hoppe of Abbotsford/ Colby in the consolation semifinal (fall 3:08). But, he came back to win over Jonah Christopherson of McDonell Catholic/Elk Mound in the fifth-place match by fall (1:43).
Jakob Soback (190) claimed fifth place. He defeated Kolten Burgess of Bloomer/Colfax in the quarterfinal by fall (1:38). He lost to Brayden Albee of Regis/Altoona in the semifinal by fall (3:09) and to Damian Sampson of NGL in the consolation semifinal (fall 0:43). But he defeated Burgess once more in the fifth-place match, by fall (1:35).
Drew Lang (144) took sixth place. He first lost to Evan Kautzer of NGL in the quarterfinal by fall (4:51). He received a bye in the first consolation round. He also lost to Jon Phelps of Cadott in the consolation semifinal (fall 1:40), and to Miles Lueck of Bloomer/Colfax in the fifth-place match (fall 1:07).
Carson Kibbel (157) took sixth place. He lost to Gavyn McFarlane of NGL by fall (0:59) in the quarterfinal. He received a bye in the first consolation round. He then lost to Brodric Westrom of Stanley-Boyd in the consolation semifinal (fall 1:06) and to Dyllon Zwiefelhofer of Bloomer/ Colfax in the fifth-place match by fall (3:13).
