Three of Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe’s four wrestlers at least reached the semifinals in Saturday’s Cadott Invitational.

Senior Troy Duellman led the Wolfpack by winning his third tournament championship of the season. He went 3-0 at 157 pounds. Taydyn Angell finished third at 215 pounds, Preston Fredrickson was fourth at 144 pounds and Kadyn Jones was seventh at 138 pounds.

They combined to score 154 points, putting the Wolfpack 10th out of 16 boys teams in the tournament.

Cumberland won the team title with 555.5 points, while Hayward-Northwood (517.5), Glenwood City (445.5), Westfield (419.5) and Cadott (401) rounded out the top five.

Duellman, who also won titles at Barron and Auburndale in December, was unchallenged in Saturday’s eight-man bracket at 157. He pinned Whitehall sophomore Jose Cantu Lucio in 1:58, earned an 11-1 major decision over Hayward-Northwood’s Landon Montney in the semifinals and a 10-2 major decision over Glenwood City’s 22-4 junior Mitchell McGee in the championship.

Duellman now sits at 19-2 for the season as he seeks his third straight appearance in the WIAA Division 3 state tournament.

Angell improved to 18-4 in his freshman season. He pinned Josh Nutt of Phillips in 1:35 in the quarterfinals but then lost a close 7-5 decision to Hayward-Northwood’s Bradey Gottwald in the semifinals. Gottwald pinned Angell the previous weekend at the Northern Badger Invitational.

Angell recovered with a pin in 1:41 over Glenwood City’s Jackson Logghe, who is 14-10, in the third-place match.

Fredrickson (10-7) won a high-scoring 13-11 decision over Glenwood City’s Zeb Holden (13-10) in the quarterfinal round at 144 pounds. Jon Phelps of Cadott (14-9), however, ended his title hopes with a pin in 3:00 in the semifinals.

Fredrickson got into another high-scoring match in the third-place bout, but this time he came out on the short end, falling 12-10 to Hayward-Northwood’s Jeremiah Kuehlman (11-8).

Jones (8-9) was part of an 11-man field at 138 pounds. He started well with a pin in 4:23 over Mason Berg of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro, but New Lisbon’s Reid Sawyer (16-5) pinned Jones in 1:45 in the quarterfinals. After a 7-0 loss to Flambeau’s 13-4 Dakota Nelson, Jones finished with a win by pin in 2:55 over Whitehall’s Oriah Anderson in the seventh-place bout. Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe hosts a Lakeland Conference quad tonight, Thursday, in Cornell at 6 p.m. The Wolfpack will face conference title contender Luck Co-op and Unity in the meet. Bruce also will be there.

From there it’s on the annual Ladysmith Invitational on Saturday. The Wolfpack travels to Clear Lake on Jan. 18 for its final Lakeland Conference quad.

The Wolfpack kicked off Lakeland Conplay ference competition Thursday with three dual meets at the Bruce Quad. The Wolfpack’s four wrestlers were able to win one of the duals, earning a 24-6 win over Bruce.

In that one, Jones had the only contested match beating Kyle Whitcome by pin in 5:14 in the 138-pound bout. Fredrickson, Duellman and Angell received forfeits. Ronan Garcia was a forfeit winner at 120 pounds for Bruce.

Flambeau was a 24-18 winner over the Wolfpack, but Cornell-Gilman-Lake Holcombe won three of the four contested matches.

Duellman pinned Kevin Verdegan in 1:15, Fredrickson pinned Cole Schley in 2:45 and Angell pinned Jakob Taylor in 43 seconds. Jones was pinned in 5:34 by Dakota Nelson.

The Falcons got forfeits at 126, 175 and 285 pounds to secure the team win.

With the deepest squad in the quad, Shell Lake easily went 3-0 on the night, beating Flambeau 60-3, Bruce 48-9 and the Wolfpack 51-12.

Duellman moved up to 165 pounds and pinned Conner Vanderhoof, while Angell won by pin over Steven Hoy. Jones pushed Tanner Bandoli to the limit at 138 pounds but lost by decision 6-2. Briar Naglosky pinned Fredrickson in the 144-pound match.
