Darla Delia Jochimsen, 87, of Medford, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023 at Country Garden Assisted Living in Medford while under the care of Hope Hospice.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 5 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Little Black.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

She was born in Rib Lake on April 6, 1936, the only child of Millard “Satch” and Gladys (Leffel) Kapitz.

In the spring of 1952, she met her future husband, Kempus “Kemp” Jochimsen. After graduating from Medford High School in 1954, she moved to Wausau and worked as an office temp for the Marathon Corporation. She and Kemp married in 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. She and Kemp resided on his family farm in Medford, where they raised their four children and ran a dairy cattle operation until 1992. She held various jobs, including working for Taylor County Human Services in the income maintenance department. She then ran for Town Clerk of Deer Creek where she spent 12 years. She also served on the Taylor County Board from 1990-1996.

Darla enjoyed playing cards, watching her grandchildren play sports, trips to the casino, traveling, knitting and embroidering.

She is survived by her children, Maralee (Ken) LeBlanc of North Port, Fla., Gail (Scott) Mildbrand of Whittlesey, Neal (Rogene) Jochimsen of Rome, Ga., and Barbara (Jodi) Dassow of Hudson; six grandchildren, Thomas (Rachel) Mildbrand and Johnny (Jessalyn) Mildbrand, Erich Jochimsen and Rachel (Jake) Williams, Bella and Nathan Dassow; and great-grandchildren, Carly and Graham Mildbrand and Kynslee and Augustine Mildbrand and another due in January.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Kemp in 2010.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Darla’s name may be given to Hope Hospice of Medford or St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Little Black maintenance fund.
