Wayne William Baumann
1952-2023
Wayne William Baumann, 71, of Abbotsford, passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 8, 2023 at his daughter’s home in Sturgeon Bay with his family at his side. He was born Feb. 12, 1952 in Medford, one of twelve children of William Albert Baumann and Dolores A. (Drager) Baumann. Wayne grew up attending Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. He attended Medford area schools and graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1970. Wayne took classes at North Central Technical College to become a foreman.
He married Vicki Arlene Haas at his home church of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville on June 12, 1971. They shared over 19 years of marriage and were blessed with four children.
Wayne married Valerie P. Yeager on Aug. 12, 1994 in Medford and were married for nine years. He moved to Abbotsford in 2019.
Those who knew Wayne might describe him as a “jack of all trades.” He was an avid woodworker who was known for making wall hangings, picture frames, and furniture. In his younger days, Wayne could be found competing in rope pulls in Owen or working on cars and being part of the pit crew at the stockcar races in Marshfield. He was skilled in welding and electrical work as well. More recently, Wayne enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Sturgeon Bay and fishing. He was a master on the grill. Wayne’s greatest passion was hunting. He always had memories to share of whitetail hunting and his trips to Wyoming for antelope. Unfortunately, Wayne was unable to get out to the woods this last hunting season. However, he enjoyed checking the pictures from the trail cameras and offering hunting advice, nonetheless.
Wayne will be missed by his children, Sherri (Paul) Leonhardt of Tinley Park, Ill., Lee Baumann of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Abbotsford, and Sheila (soonto- be-son, Keith Magle) Horner of Sturgeon Bay; their mother, Vicki Baumann of Dorchester; grandchildren, Peyton Leonhardt and Serina, Angel, Amy, and Edric Horner; siblings, Gerald Baumann of Dorchester, Marie Ramm of Medford, JoAnn (Myron) Konkle of Pleasant Prairie, Gloria (Gaylon) Van Hecker of Rib Lake, Linda Baumann of Dorchester, Doris Lange of Janesville, Rhonda (Jay) Gorske of Wausau, Robert (Lori) Baumann of Athens, Vickie (David) Orth of Abbotsford, and Dale (Anne) Baumann of Medford; brotherin- law, Bernard Simpson of DeKalb, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William “Billy” George Baumann (1976); former wife, Valerie Yeager; sister, Sharon Simpson; brothers-in-law, Alvin Ramm and James Lange; niece, Mary Beth Simpson; and other relatives.
Wayne’s life will be honored with a memorial service held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 at Hemer- Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford, followed by a celebration of life at Jack’s Cantina in Abbotsford.
