1952-2023

Joseph “Joe” H. Berger, 71, of Medford passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. at OLPH Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, with Father Julian Druffner officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will take place at OLPH Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Joe was born on June 22, 1952 to Robert and Eunice (Haenel) Berger. He graduated from Medford High School. Following school he drove truck for Tombstone, later Nestle, for 38 years. He was awarded 3 times for 1 million miles driven without an accident. He married Connie Fleischmann on June 24, 1972 and they were married 51 years before his passing.

Joe enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, hunting, mowing the lawn, playing cribbage and teaching his grandchildren the game, and smoking his pipe in solitude. He also owned several classic cars and won various awards for them.

Joe is survived by his wife, Connie; children, Craig (Jolene) Berger of Ogema, and Carrie (Brad) Gumz and Justin (Shanna) Berger, both of Westboro; grandchildren, Dilan and Kaelyn Berger, Kyle, Sam, Addison, and Isabelle Gumz, and Wyatt and Ryan Berger; siblings, Cheryl Rognstad, Diane Junemann, Terry Berger, and Lorna Berger. He is further survived by many brothers and sisters-inlaw, nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert “Bob” Berger.
