The Colby Community Library (CCL) has decked the halls and filled the shelves with holiday books, movies, magazines, and music CDs. Visit the CCL to make your season merry and bright.

Victorian Tea

A reminder to all signed up for the Friends of the Colby Library Victorian Tea: Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. for the tea. Londa Swarr will be providing lovely harp music prior to and during the tea. People are encouraged to visit the Pearl Vorland History Room to step back in time to view nostalgia from Colby’s Sesquicentennial history.

Take & Make Crafts

To commemorate the sixth anniversary of being in the “new” Colby Community Library building, December offers six varieties of “Take & Make” craft bags for children. Please limit your selection to two craft bags per child per visit. Back by popular demand, there are sticker crafts for adults. Santa Tootsie Pop treats and peppermint goodies are also free during December.

Puzzle Competition

Are you looking for a family or friend activity over the holiday break? The CCL is hosting its first Puzzle Setting Competition on Thursday, December 28. There are two sessions: 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Teams of 2-4 people, ages 8-adult, need to register by December 22. Each team will be working on a different 350-piece family puzzle. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.

Busy Bee Backpacks

Once again, community folks showed their generosity by donating to the Busy Bee Backpacks program. The deliveries to Marshfield Medical Center and Aspirus Health of Medford and Wausau were tremendous. The health care personnel were elated with the 159 backpacks filled with items for children undergoing medical treatments at their respective facilities. In addition, 160 items filled four boredom buster bags for children in waiting rooms.

In 2024, the CCL holiday giving project will return to helping the local food pantries. Put on your creativity hats and plan a display, made of non-perishable food items, for our “FoodSculpture” challenge in November.

Adult Reading/Movie Challenge Remember to turn in all completed Read or View the Rainbow book and movie challenge folders by December 29 at 5 p.m. to be eligible for the drawing for Abby/Colby Chamber gift certificates.

In 2024, “Adventure BINGO” cards will be available starting Tuesday, January 2.

LOGO Gifts

The Friends of the CCL have an assortment of CCL logo t-shirts, long sleeved shirts and canvas bags ready for holiday gift giving— either to those on your gift list or for yourself. The Friends use the proceeds of sales to support CCL’s programs.

Penny Press

We are awaiting the arrival of the CCL’s newly donated Penny Press machine. Four Colby-themed pennies will be available. Look for the CCL brochure included in this year’s tax mailing; it includes a coupon for one free pressed penny per household. The coupon will be valid beginning January 2 through the end of May. Brochures will also be available at the library if you did not receive one.

BUSY BEE BACKPACKS - The Colby Community Library sponsored a collection in November for “Busy Bee Backpacks” to benefit children at local medical facilities. Over 1200 items were donated for 159 backpacks and four totes filled with boredom buster items. The backpacks and totes were delivered to Marshfield Medical Center (MMC), Aspirus Medford, and Aspirus Wausau. In the photo, Melissa Darr, Volunteer Services Coordinator at MMC, is shown with Kris Woik, Friends of the Colby Library president, receiving Marshfield’s share of the backpacks.
