Cadott falls to Ramblers, explodes against Rockets

Getting out on the field was a long time coming for the Cadott softball squad, with the team facing off with two eager opponents.
April 13 vs. Bloomer conference (L 15-1)
It was long awaited to get in a game this spring, and Cadott finally had the chance, heading to Bloomer for a non-conference match. Things started out well for the Hornets, as they scored a run in the first inning, but that would be the only run they would see.
The Blackhawks added five runs in their own side of the first inning, then knocked in five more in the second, along with three in the third and two in the fourth inning, to take the game, 15-1.
Senior Lauryn Goettl went one inning on the mound for Cadott, allowing 10 runs, 6 hits and 4 walks. Sophomore Kasey Moldrem then took over, going three innings, giving up 5 runs, 6 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 3 batters.
Offensively, sophomore Rilei Weeks scored the only run for Cadott, as well as a hit. Goettl and freshman Kennedy Nerdrum also had a hit each.
April 14 vs. Spencer non-conference (W 24-0)
With no time to catch their breath, the Hornets then headed to Spencer the next day, to take on the Rockets in a nonconference bout. This time around, Cadott fared much better on the offensive side of things, giving up only two hits to the opposing team.
While the Hornets went scoreless in the first inning, by the second, they opened up the scoring barrage, knocking in four runs there and the next inning, before adding a whopping 16 runs in the fourth and final inning, for a 24-0 victory.
Moldrem pitched three innings, with 7 strikeouts and a walk. The mound was then turned over to Nerdrum, who went for an inning, giving up 2 hits and striking out a batter.
“Both looked great and showed potential for a successful season,” said coach Kari Moldrem.
Weeks, senior Elly Eiler and Kasey Moldrem all ended with 3 hits, while Goettl, seniors Morgan Moldrem and Eva Enestvedt, and freshman Karlee Davis, all had a hit.
“Friday’s game was an opportunity to get everyone a chance to gain some experience,” said Kari Moldrem.
