October 30, 2013 -- The Spencer Village Parks and Recreation Committee held an Arbor Day event on Oct. 25. In the past few months, the village had planted more than 20 trees in its parks to try to receive a Tree City USA designation.

-- Meagan Cramer of Greenwood had spent a month of her summer at the Shanghai Healing Home in China to help orphaned children in need. In her time there, she spent time with the children, giving them attention and teaching basic English.

-- Rio Rasmussen of Greenwood placed second in the State Championship BMX Finals race on Sept. 15 in Wisconsin Rapids. He also placed second in the state in the 11-year-old boys Expert Class.

November 4, 1998 -- Students at the Greenwood elementary and high school buildings were released from school early on Nov. 3 following a water main break at the elementary school. The students were sent home at 1 p.m. since there was no water available at the school, and the junior and senior high school students were released from school to avoid running the school bus routes twice.

-- The Greenwood Bakery on Main Street in Greenwood was to close after 48 years of business. The bakery had been founded in 1950 by George Grabara Sr., who had come to Greenwood as an immigrant from Germany. His son, George Grabara Jr. and son’s wife Gaile, ran the business alongside him for 16 years until 1970 when George Grabara Sr. passed away and his son took over. The Greenwood bakery specialized in making baked goods such as bread, doughnuts, buns, and caramel rolls from scratch without preservatives.

-- Vince Ruger of Spencer placed 59th at the WIAA State Cross Country Meet.

November 1, 1978 -- Poor road shoulder conditions resulted in another overturned vehicle along Highway 13 between Spencer and Marshfield last week. At least five vehicles, most of them semi trucks, had overturned into the nearby ditches during attempts to pull over onto the shoulder in the past few months. Property damage to the latest vehicle and its hauled goods was expected to be considerable.

-- A Meet Your Candidate Night sponsored by the Clark County Homemakers and held at the Loyal American Legion Hall brought in 975 residents. The residents were able to hear each of the candidates running for offices in Clark County at the event and ask questions following speeches.

-- The Loyal girls volleyball team had won the WIAA Regional tournament on Oct. 28. -- The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture announced Clark County as the site for selecting a new Alice in Dairyland in 1979.

-- A 48-ounce bottle of Dawn dish soap was $1.75.

October 31, 1963 -- The second annual alumni football game was to be held Nov. 2 between alumni who graduated before 1961 and alumni who graduated after 1961 at Greenwood High School. Some stars expected to return to play were Ralph (Slugger) Landini, Ed (Speedy) Gregorich, Mike (Coach) Friedman, Republski, Ted Martens, Roger Liebzeit, Ted (Bull) Fetting, Bill Seliskar, Tom Boe, Jerry Longridge, Bob Turnquist, Roger Dillenbeck, and Francis (Windy) Hinker.
