Lake Holcombe Town Board - It ain’t cheap to have a working sewer system

Things are moving along good in the Lake Holcombe Sanitary District, as staff continues to work with the DNR to be in compliance and update their system. Buck Steele, Sanitary Board chairman, gave an update to the Lake Holcombe Town Board Oct. 12.
Right now, because it warms up, then shuts down, the district is looking at the backup pump at lift station No. 2. If they wanted to replace the pump, a new one costs upwards of $17,000, but to rebuild it, it’s still more than $7,000.
Since it is just a backup and one can be obtained within three days, the Sanitary Board decided to let it be for now.
“There’s no sense tying that kind of money up,” said Steele.
It was also reported that two board members are stepping down at the end of the year, as well as Steele, so something will need to be done to appoint more members before that time.
In town board business, members looked over the spending criteria for the Holcombe Area Veterans Memorial, as they want to make sure the organization is following what is legal in getting bids and setting spending limits. Supervisor David Staudacher said as far as he is aware, the Memorial Committee does try to get at least two bids each time.
So much of the labor and materials are donated, sometimes, that doesn’t always happen, but according to the Towns Association, the memorial meets exemption as a non-profit. That doesn’t mean the town board wouldn’t like to see bids each time.
“It’s a good guideline to use to get the best price,” said supervisor Doug Olson.
Next month is a time for the public to make some decisions, at the Nov. 9 budget hearing, with an electors meeting to approve the levy, followed by the regular meeting.
