Cadott rolls in week’s league action at home

Boosting their West Cloverbelt Conference record, the Cadott volleyball program brought in a couple league wins, before heading off for a weekend tournament.
Sept. 26 vs. Osseo-Fairchild conference (W 3-0)
In the first of two home games, Cadott saw Osseo-Fairchild come to town, winning the first set in a handy fashion, 25-16. The Thunder came back to make it closer in the second set, 25-19, but Cadott refused to go down and claimed the third set, 25-12, for a 3-0 victory.
Senior Emma Kowalczyk led on kills for the Hornets, with 15, along with 2 aces and 4 digs, while senior Kendall Webster added 4 kills and 9 digs. Sophomore Karlee Davis had 20 assists on the night, with 3 aces and 12 digs, and senior Makenna Harel notched 26 digs.
Sept. 28 vs. Fall Creek conference (W 3-2)
To finish out the Homecoming week, Fall Creek came to play, bringing the first set to an exciting 26-24 win in their favor, but the Hornets rallied to take a 25-8 win in the second set.
“The girls showed so much heart and fight tonight,” said coach Lynn Schreiner.
By the third set, the Crickets pushed past to claim a 2520 victory. Cadott wouldn’t be denied and got the win in the fourth set, 25-21, as well as a 15-12 win in the final set.
“There were several ups and down out of our control, and the girls worked their way through them all, to come up with the win,” said Schreiner.
Kowalczyk came up with 13 kills, as well as 15 digs and 4 blocks, with Harel recording 19 digs and 4 aces. Davis added 21 assists, 3 aces and 7 digs for the Hornets.
“They left it all on the court tonight,” said Schreiner.
Sept. 30 vs. Baldwin-Woodville non-conference (L 2-0)
Cadott then traveled to New Richmond, for a weekend tournament, going 1-3 on the day.
The first opponent they faced was Baldwin-Woodville, who won in two sets, 27-25 and 25-17.
Sept. 30 vs. Rice Lake non-conference (W 2-0)
Up next, was Rice Lake, who was no match for the Hornets, falling in two sets to Cadott, 25-15 and 25-19.
Sept. 30 vs. Grantsburg non-conference (L 2-1)
Grantsburg was up next, with Cadott taking the win in the first set, 25-22, but fell in the next two sets, 25-16 and 15-9.
Sept. 30 vs. New Richmond non-conference (L 2-0)
To round out the day, Cadott then faced New Richmond, but couldn’t best the other team, even though they came close, dropping the sets, 27-25 and 28-26.
Coming up with 25 kills on the night, was Kowalczyk, who also had 21 digs and 4 blocks. Sophomore Haley Mathison also came up big on the day, with 23 kills and 6 blocks, while Harel ended with 38 digs and 12 aces, and Davis had 38 assists, 5 aces and 15 digs.
