Cadott takes the fight to whomever they face

Cadott’s volleyball program racked up experience over the week, with a couple tough conference opponents, before heading to a tournament on the road.

Sept. 19 vs. Thorp conference (W 3-0)

First up on the week, was Thorp, on Cadott’s home court, where they took a 3-0 set win over the Cardinals.

Leading for the Hornets, was senior Emma Kowalczyk, with 7 kills, 4 aces and 12 digs, followed by sophomore Karlee Davis, with 18 assists and 2 aces. Senior Makenna Harel came next, with 11 digs and 2 aces.

Sept. 21 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (W 3-1)

Two nights later, Cadott traveled the short distance to Stanley, where they battled it out with the Orioles.

Cadott reeled in a win in the first set, 25-15, but Stanley-Boyd bounced back to take a 25-21 win in the second set. The Hornets wouldn’t go down, and claimed victory in the third and fourth sets, 25-15 and 25-21.

Kowalczyk again led with 14 kills, 19 digs and 2 blocks, while sophomore Haley Mathison notched 16 kills, and Davis came away with 27 assists and 4 aces. Junior Tarynn Donahue followed that up with 18 assists, 2 aces and 9 digs, and Harel added 20 digs, 2 aces and 2 assists.

Sept. 23 vs. Medford non-conference (L 1-2)

Cadott then headed to Medford, for a weekend tournament, taking on the host team. The Hornets won in the first set, 25-21, but fell in the second, 25-19, and in the third, 15-9.

Sept. 23 vs. Flambeau non-conference (W 2-0)

Up next, was Flambeau, with the Hornets making quick work of a two-set win, 25-9 and 25-21.

Sept. 23 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (W 2-0)

Cadott again faced Stanley-Boyd, for the second time in a week, claiming victory in two sets, 25-23 and 25-16.

Sept. 23 vs. Gilman non-conference (L 1-2)

Finally, to finish the tournament, Cadott paired off with Gilman, dropping the first set, 25-20, before regaining their footing with a 25-22 win in the second set. However, the Pirates wouldn’t go down and won in the third set, 159.

Kowalczyk again came up big over the weekend, with 21 kills, 3 aces, 25 digs and 3 blocks. Mathison ended the tournament with 32 kills and 8 blocks, while junior Bradee Burish had 13 kills, 6 digs and 3 blocks. Harel also scored big, with 41 digs and 5 aces, followed by Davis, who came away with 51 assists, 5 aces and 23 digs.
