Joann Parks is very involved with BetterLife Lodge 141 (Bohemian Hall) and because of that, was recognized with outstanding participation. Through her BetterLife membership, Parks volunteers, fundraises and participates in events for her community, along with taking part in some trivia sessions.

“Each month, they posted things to do,” said Parks. To award that outstanding participation, she received funds to donate to a local veterans organization of her choice. BetterLife is a member-owned life insurance company, which Lodge 141 belongs to.

When Parks found out she received $1,000, she decided to split it between three entities – $250 goes to the Holcombe Area Veterans Memorial; $250 to the Cadott VFW; and $500 to the Highground Veterans Memorial in Neillsville.

Her decision was made because Parks knows people involved with the Holcombe memorial and has ties to the VFW. As for Neillsville, that holds a special place in her heart.

“My husband was a Vietnam vet,” said Parks.
