Vouchers can help elderly buy fruits and vegetables

As part of their mission to give back, the Cornell ATV Riders Club granted a wish, to see the Packers Hall of Fame and Lambeau Field in Green Bay, to local student Carson Empey (left). The club provided tickets for the family to visit Lambeau, and Empey was very excited to see in-person, where his favorite football team plays. The youth was also presented a Packers plaque, donated by Mark Arneson, who recently passed away. Club president Bill Kvapil (right) presented the plaque and tickets to Empey, and members hope he has a great time and memories from Lambeau Field.

Each year, the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program gives checks to eligible people to spend at farmers’ markets. This helps bring new buyers to the market. It also boosts sales for local Wisconsin farmers.

To get the free vouchers, apply with the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Chippewa County. Each eligible person can receive $35 in Farmers’ Market Vouchers.

Starting in 2023, it is no longer limited to one packet, per household. These vouchers can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from participating local farmers’ markets, or road-side produce stands.

To be eligible a Chippewa County resident must be age 60 or better (or Native American age 55, or better); and have a 2023 gross household income less than (remember to add back in Medicare B and D premiums to figure your gross income) one-person ($2,248/month), two-person ($3,041/ month), and each additional household member of $793/month.

To apply, visit co.chippewa.wi.us, or call 715-26-7777 to request a mailed application.
