thens MCPL Book Club

Join staff and other book club members on June 13, 2 p.m., to discuss Celeste Ng’s “Little Fires Everywhere.” The monthly events are held at the Athens library branch, 221 Caroline St.

Farmers Market

The Athens Farmers Market will be held each Tuesday, 1-4 p.m., at Athens Memorial Park.

MCPL Story Time

Parents and caregivers are invited to join during the summer months on the first and third Monday of the month. Children of all ages and parents/guardians are welcome to this 30-minute program. Attendees will read books together, sing some songs, learn the ABCs and have an alphabet coloring page available afterwards.

Mondays (June 5 and 19) from 10:30-11 a.m. at the Athens MCPL branch, 221 Caroline St.

Senior Card group

The Senior Citizens card group met on May 25 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall. Two games of Sheepshead were played. Steve Klockziem won the first game and Sally Stubbe took second place. Pat Frank won the second game and Rick Schaetzl took second. Butch Boris received low score.

Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Athens Fire Hall.

Lions Club meetings

Athens area residents are welcome to attend the Athens Lions Club’s monthly meetings, which are held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, alternating between Balz Inn and Landmark Bar.

Anyone with questions can call Athens Lions Club member Steve Sondelski at 715-2181496. New members and guests are always welcome at the monthly meetings.

E dgar MCPL Book Club

Head to the Edgar library branch, 224 S. Third Ave., on June 13, 12 p.m., to discuss “The Girls in the Picture” by Melanie Benjamin at the monthly book club gathering.

Mankato Grad

Minnesota State University Mankato held its commencement ceremonies on May 5. There were 2,247 students who received degrees. The following individual from Edgar was one of the students.

UW-Whitewater Dean’s List

Carol Hiebl was named to the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater dean’s list for the spring semester. To be on the list, students must have a GPA of 3.4 or above.

St. John’s Summer Camp

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church’s Summer Camp will be held June 6 and 7, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Children who will be in 4K through sixth grade in the fall are eligible to participate. There will be games and learning opportunities with lunch provided both days. There is a registration fee per child. To register, contact Nancy at the parish office by emailing evangelize@stjohnedgar.org or call 715-352-3011. Volunteers are also needed.

Medical equipment

The Edgar American Legion in Edgar has good, used medical equipment that can be loaned out. If you are in need, call Sylvia Fergot at 715-352-2221.

M arathon MCPL Story Time

Children of all ages and their parents and caregivers are invited to attend story time each Thursday over the summer. Attendees will read books, sing songs and more during the 30-45 minutes together.

Thursdays (June 15, 22 and 29) from 10:30-11:15 a.m. at the Marathon MCPL branch, 515 Washington St.

Bee Kind Story Time

Attend a special story time all about kindness and togetherness as the Marathon City branch kicks off its summer story time schedule. Come enjoy stories about kindness and togetherness. There will also be a special “bee kind” craft at this event on June 8, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

MCPL Book Club

Join library staff and other literary enthusiasts during the monthly book club gathering on June 12, 5:45 p.m., to discuss “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive.” The event will be held at the Marathon library branch, 515 Washington St.

Farmers market

The Marathon City Farmers Market will begin on June 15 and run every Thursday from 2-6 p.m. until October 26. The market is located in downtown Marathon at 400 Main St.

Lion’s Club Float

Online registration for the second annual Marathon Lion’s River Float will close on Thursday, June 1, at 9 p.m. Please visit Marathon Lions Club #10539 Facebook page for the link to register. Once the online registration closes, registration will only be available on the day of the float, which is Saturday, June 10, in Rib Falls from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Attendees will drop their canoes, kayaks or inner tubes off in Rib Falls at the check-in site and then proceed to Lions Park in Marathon where transportation will be provided back to Rib Falls. The float begins at 10 a.m. with the last drop off at 1 p.m. Food will be provided for all registered participants at Arrow Tap in Marathon from noon to 4:30 p.m. Please send any questions by message via the Facebook page.

S tratford MCPL Book Club

Join the library staff and fellow readers for a discussion of “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry” by Gabrielle Zevin on June 21, 1 p.m. The monthly book club events are held at the Stratford library branch, 213201 Scholar St.

MCPL Story Time

Children of all ages and parents/guardians are welcome to this 30-minute program. Enjoy learning through stories, songs and other literature-based activities. Story time will be held outside on the green space surrounding the library. In case of inclement weather, story times will be moved inside the library.

Elephant and Piggie Party

Children and families/ caretakers are invited to join the celebration of the works of Mo Willems this summer. The Elephant and Piggie Party will include interactive readings of some of his wonderful books combined with music and crafts. This event, on June 21, 10:30-11 a.m., will be held outside the library. In case of inclement weather, it will move inside the library.

Knoll Fitness Center

The Knoll Fitness Center, which is attached to Stratford High School, is open from 4:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. seven days a week.

Stratford School District residents need to visit the high school office to get their keyfob updated before being able to gain access into the Knoll Fitness Center.
