William “Bill” Werner Jr.

1948-2023

William “Bill” Werner Jr, 74 of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 at home under the care of Compassus Hospice. Bill was born Oct. 1, 1948 to William and La Nae Werner, of Medford.

After attending Medford Public Schools, Bill joined the Navy and completed two tours in Vietnam. In 1972, he married Diana Bessler. Bill graduated from UW Stevens Point in 1974, with a secondary education degree in Economics and Geography. Bill taught high school in Brisbane, Australia. After returning to the States, Bill worked as a carpenter until poor health forced his retirement. He enjoyed reading and all animals in nature, especially his well-fed squirrel friends and granddogs. Bill’s greatest joy came from playing golf with his friends.

Bill and Diana had three children, William Werner III, Kylie (Jason) Sieck, and Leah (Justin) Martin. Besides being survived by his wife and children, Bill is further survived by seven siblings, brothers, Robert (Kristine), Barry (Jane), Bryon, and Bruce (Bonnie) Werner; and sisters, Becky (Ted) Hans, Bonnie (Guy) Masuda, and Beth (Jeff) Abegglen.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother. Per Bill’s request, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please donate any memorial gift, in Bill’s name, to your local hospice program.
