Neillsville/Greenwood Loyal wins against Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/ Fall Creek, loses to Cadott
The Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal (NGL) wrestling team placed second at a triangular meet at Cadott Jan. 26. The NGL team lost against Cadott while beating Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek (OFAFC) to rank second.
In their matchup against Cadott, NGL faced a larger team, with Cadott winning points through seven uncontested matches compared to NGL’s one uncontested win through Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt in the 145-pound class. In contested matches, Cadott won four out of six, beating NGL’s Gavyn McFarlane (160), Carter Schoengarth (195), Braxton Kauth (220) and Evan Kautzer (132).
Winning matches for NGL were Dane Luchterhand, who pinned Jimmy Carranza in 56 seconds in the 170-pound class; and Luke Dux (126), who won his match against Nick Goettl in 1:05. NGL fell to Cadott 63-18.
In its against OFAFC, NGL won 4230. Earning points through uncontested matches were Sebesta-Opelt (145), Heath Jordan (182), Carter Schoengarth (195), Luke Dux (126) and Rogan Ashbeck (138).
Competing in contested matches were Keeghan Anding, who won the 152-pound class by beating Breanna Wier in 1:02; McFarlane, who lost in the 160-pound class; Luchterhand, who won over Dustin Sudbrink in the 170-pound class in 1:16; Kauth, who lost in the 220-pound class; and Kautzer, who lost in the 132-pound class.
NGL’s season will continue with the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament this Saturday, Feb. 4, at Abbotsford at 9 a.m.
Granton wrestler competes twice
Granton wrestler Wyatt Karl competed in two wrestling meets in the past week. On Jan. 26, he traveled to Thorp to face off against opponents from Thorp, Abbotsford-Colby and Stanley-Boyd. He had to wrestle up a weight class against a 220-pound Thorp competitor. Even with the weight difference, Wyatt took control right off the whistle and pinned his opponent in the first period. Karl next competed in Menomonie Jan. 28, taking second place in the 195-pound class. He won four out of five matches at Menomonie for the placing.
