Farewell party held About 300 people attended the farewell party for Father Gerald Schuh, pastor of St. Louis Catholic Church at Dorchester for the past 16 years, who retired Nov. 15 from his pastoral duties.

The party was Sunday afternoon with a program in the church, followed by a social hour and lunch in the church hall. Special guests included the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Alphonse Schuh, Marshfield (brother of Father Schuh); the Rev. Emil Hodnik, Abbotsford and the Rev. Andrew Berthold, Stetsonville.

Ronald Robida served as master of ceremonies. Pupils of St. Louis School, under the direction of Sister Margaret Marie and Sister Agnes, presented a musical program, featuring songs that typified some of the special events during Father Schuh’s time with them. Stephen Weber served as narrator as the various class groups sang. Linda Lueddecke served as organist; Kathleen Heindl was featured on the baritone and Jackie Apfelbeck with the guitar.

Donald Peissig, president of the parish council, was the principal speaker. He told some of the early history of St. Louis parish and also outlined some of the many improvements made during Father Schuh’s pastorate here. It was in 1898 that the parish was started as a mission to Stevens Point and later was a mission to the Athens parish. Fifteen priests have served since becoming a parish of its own.
