Hornets gain experience in competition at indoor meet

By Ginna Young

Despite less than perfect weather April 14, the Cadott track squad was on the track at Neillsville.

“It was great to be able to compete, as this was an indoor meet,” said coach Pat Rothbauer.

Included in the performances of the meet, was a third place finish in the 45-meter hurdles for sophomore Emma Kowalczyk, in a time of 8:46.

“Her blocks slipped in the prelims, and she was able to recover and make the finals, and then have a great finals race and place third,” said Rothbauer. Freshman Mia Weegen also placed third in the 1,600-meter run (6:52.6)

“This was a very good race for us, as we had four of the eight place winners,” said Rothbauer.

Sophomore Ashton Wolfgram also fared well, with a 3-foot personal record in the shot put event. Meanwhile, Kendall Webster made the finals in the 45-meter dash, in her first competition of the year.

A highlight of the meet, was the 12-lap relay team of Mallory Kyes, Abigail Goettl, Keira Urbanek and Jayden Winchell, who came in strong in the competition.

“We were able to get everyone in, so that was also a positive aspect,” said Rothbauer.
