The Edgar Lions Club will host an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 16, 10 a.m. at Oak Street Park, Edgar. A petting zoo is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
On campus
UW-La Crosse has announced Riley Berg, Edgar, is a December 2021 graduate earning a bachelor of science degree in early childhood through middle childhood education with highest honors.
Women’s Club
The Edgar Women’s Club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, April 12, not on Thursday as previously reported.
Softball meetings
The Fenwood Lions Men’s and Women’s 2022 league softball teams will both hold organizational meetings onThursda, March 31, at Illusions Bar, Fenwood. The women’s meeting is at 6:30 p.m. The men’s meeting is at 7:30 p.m.
Church lecture
The Rev. Alan Wierzba will present a lecture, “Why Did Jesus Need to Die For My Sins” on Sunday, March 27, and Sunday, April 3, from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar.
The minister will discuss Lenten themes. No registration required and child care is available.

Ukraine donations
Students at St. John the Baptist Catholic School are gathering emergency aid donations for Ukraine. The donations will be sent to Chalice of Mercy, a non-profit organization founded in 2007 by Valentyna Pavsyukova, a native of Ukraine. Items will be collected through Thursday, March 24, in the church gathering space.
Needed items include infant and toddler supplies, including diapers, pacifiers, children’s clothing newborn to youth size 16, children’s un- derwear, gloves and mittens and small, soft toys; women’s items, including feminine hygiene products, travel size shampoo, soap and toothpaste, underwear, gloves, blankets and raincoats; items for men, including thermal clothing, warm socks and gloves, hats and t-shirts.
Other needed items include batteries, waterproof matches, power banks, stable food items such as energy bars, peanuts and mixed nuts, baby formula and instant cereal, and medications including cold and flu medicine, eye drops, Ibuprofen and Tylenol, tweezers.
Field and hospital medical and surgical supplies are further requested.
Covid dashboard
Edgar Public Schools has reported zero cases of COVID-19 as of March 17 among 689 staff and students. To date, 119 students and staff have contracted the coronavirus during the 2021-22 school year.
History speaks
Join the Marathon County Historical Society and presenter Paul Clarkon Saturday, April 2, 2-3 p.m. for a History Speaks presentation on visits to Wausau by William Jen- nings Bryan.
Bryan was one of the most influential men in the history of the United States. He was a defining personality during the Progressive Era, known for debating evolution in Tennessee and running for president on numerous occasions. He was a constant presence in the American political scene—including making stops and speeches in cities like Wausau. Clark will share information and photos of Bryan’s visits to Wausau.
All History Speaks programs will be broadcast live simultaneously via Zoom, the Historical Society’s Facebook page and its YouTube channel. If you can’t join them live, you can watch archived recordings anytime at the same places.
These programs, which are a collaborative effort between the Historical Society and the Marathon County Public Library, are free to watch and open to all ages with no registration required. Call the Historical Society at 715-842-5750 for more information.
Paul Clark has taught history at Wausau East High School for 22 years, and has earned master’s degrees in History and English. He lives in Wausau with his wife, Elayna, who teaches history at Wausau West High School.
Fish fries
St. John’s Catholic Church, Edgar, will offer fish fries each Friday 4-7:30 p.m. as carryouts only. The fish fries will be served during Lent through April 15. Call ahead at 715-352-3111 or 715-352-8105 to order either fried fish or shrimp. People can order by visiting the church dining hall in person.
Food drive
CCD students at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will collect food and cash donations for the Athens and Edgar Circle of Joy food pantry during Lent.
Lenten schedule
St. John and St. Stephen ELCA, town of Wien and Edgar, have announced their Lenten schedule of worship.
Worship will alternate over the next five Wednesdays between the two church locations. Worship will be at 6:30 p.m., preceded by a soup supper at 5:30 p.m.
St. Stephen will have Lenten worship on April 6. Worship will be at St. John’s on March 30.
Fine arts
Elvis Presley impersonator Fred “E” Heidmann will present a “Tribute to the King” on Sunday, March 27, 1 p.m. at the Edgar Public School auditorium. The doors will open at noon.
The performance is sponsored by the Edgar Fine Arts Association.
Garage sales
The Village of Edgar has announced there will be a community garage sale Thursday and Friday, May 19-20.
All-conference
The Center for Visual Arts and the Marawood Conference Art Exhibit have announced winners of All-Conference awards. Edgar High School senior Haylee Schreiber was named an all-conference winner for “Self Portrait: Growing a Creative Mind.”
Circle of Joy
The Edgar Circle of Joy food pantry is open to those in need of food in the Edgar Village Hall on the first Wednesday of the month, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the third Wednesday of the month, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
