The University of Wisconsin- Madison Division of Extension’s online training course titled, “Planning Livestock Emergency Tansport Response” (PELTR) is taking registrations until Wednesday, March 23.
This courese is intended for first responders, including fire/EMS/law enforcement/ state patrol, county highway department and emergency management, public health and safety communicators.
Governmental administrators, veterinarians and those experienced in handling livestock who may provide planning assistance to roadside incidents involving transported livestock are also invited to attend the training course.
This is a self-paced online course (UW-Madison Canvas) with a one half-day hands-on session that includes a meal. There is a fee for the course. Registered participants will receive a hard copy manual and participate in discussions with their peers.
The virtual course begins on Friday, April 1, with the participants choosing to attend one of three in-person locations. Each in-person session begins with check-in at 4:30 p.m. on the following dates and locations: Wednesday, May 18 in Altoona; Thursday, May 19 in Sparta and Wednesday, May 25 in Wausau. The in-person session will include a review of coursework, tabletop scene exercises and livestock trailer demonstrations. Emergency response personnel will be awarded 8 CE Units for completing this course.

Benefit breakfast
Stratford VFW Post 6352 will host a benefit breakfast for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight on Sunday, March 20, from 7 a.m. until noon.
VFW members will be serving pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs. There will be many raffles, including two items donated from the Green Bay Packers.
Proceeds from the breakfast will go toward sending military veterans on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to visit the war memorials in Washington, D.C.
On campus
Stratford High School graduate Oscar Telschow was awarded to the Ripon College dean’s list for the fall 2021 semester.
To qualify for the dean’s list at Ripon College, students must achieve a 3.40 grade point average or higher on a 4.00 scale and complete at least 12 credits of regular lettter- graded work.
Academic banquet
Stratford School District will hold the principals academic banquet for deserving students and their families on Monday, March 21, at 6 p.m. at the Country Aire.
Orville and Helen Bornbach of rural Stratford founded the principals academic banquet in 1984.
Bloodmobile
A bloodmobile will be held from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at the VFW clubhouse in Stratford.
The following Tuesday blood drives will take place at the VFW clubhouse in Stratford: April 26, June 28, Aug. 23 and Oct. 25. No appointments are needed for people to donate blood.
COVID dashboard
Stratford Public Schools reported zero positive cases of COVID-19 as of March 7, out of 933 staff and students.
One hundred fifty-eight Stratford staff and students have tested positive for COVID- 19 since Sept. 1, 2021.
Family story time
Parents and their children are invited to join the Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) for family story time online this Tuesday, March 22, for stories that feature construction equipment. They will also hear a fun rhyme that fits with the construction theme.
A new story time is posted every Tuesday at 10 a.m. on MCPL’s YouTube channel: www.youtubel.com/MCPLWausau, but families can watch any time. Online family story time is free.

Grab & Go craft
During the entire month of April, adults can pick up a free Grab & Go craft kit from any of the Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) locations.
The kit will contain supplies for making a spring-inspired thimble bouqet pendent.
Kits are free and available while supplies last. For more information, people can call the MCPL’s headquarters in Wausau at 715-261-7230.
Book Club
The public is welcome to join the Marathon County Public Library’s Stratford Branch and fellow readers for a wonderful book club discussion at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, on author Matt Haig’s acclaimed novel titled, “The Midnight Library.”
