Shirley R. Denzin, age 92, of Milan, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at Athenian Living in Athens under the tender care of Compassus Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens. Rev. Donn Radde will preside. Family and friends are welcome from noon until the time of service Sunday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Shirley was born on January 25, 1930, the daughter of Albert and Caroline (Wellman) Fasse in Milan. She graduated salutatorian from Abbotsford High School in 1948. On August 29, 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to William Denzin at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2013.

Shirley worked at Laabs Cheese Factory, the Dairy Bar, Figi’s and was a cook at the nursing home in Colby. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens and a member of the Ladies Aid and sang in the church choir. Shirley enjoyed music, including playing the concertina, and kittens. Most importantly, she loved and cherished her family.

Shirley is survived by her three daughters: Janine Hupe of Madison, Maureen (Gary) Belanger of Athens and Corrine (Duane) Bauer of Marshfield; 15 grandchildren: Nate Hupe, Miranda (Doug) Johnson, Rochelle (Kelly) Blosl, Todd (Verica) Hupe, Sarah (Clayton) Venzke, Mindy (Nick) Young, Becca (Brian) Simpson, Elaine (Stephen Hicks) Brubaker, Becca (Randy) Ayer, Liara (Matthew) Bramm, Cody (Samantha) Bauer, Robin (fiancé, Jordon Miller) Bauer, Holly Bauer (Andrew Reseburg) and Tony Bauer; 16 great-grandchildren: Sydney Venzke, Callie Davis, Owen and Zooey Simpson, Jacob and Lily Young, Juliette and Danny Hupe, Derek Johnson, Derek Willman, Brittany Barritt, Kristen (Dustin) Schecklman, Taylor Hupe, Wyatt Bauer and twins on the way. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Udell Fasse; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Daniel Hupe; and five brothers: Norman (Viola) Fasse, Howard Fasse, Elwood (Merle) Fasse, Kenneth (Margaret) Fasse and Arno Fasse.
