The Abbotsford track team participated in the Marawood Conference Meet on Monday, May 16. The meet was held in Marathon and the Falcons went up against the other eleven schools that make up the conference.

The Abbotsford girls’ team placed third with a final score of 84.25 points, putting them just behind second place Edgar’s 103.75 points and conference champion Marathon’s 154.5 points. The Stratford boys’ team edged out Edgar and Auburndale in a tight battle for the title of Marawood Conference champs, scoring 126.5 points to Edgar’s 116 and Auburndale’s 106. The Abbotsford boys’ team finished ninth, scoring 27 points.

After a season’s worth of weather conditions that were less than ideal, Monday evening was near perfect; neither too hot nor cold and with minimal wind. Many Falcons athletes seemed to take advantage, as there were many top finishers for both Abbotsford teams.

Three girls took home first-team allconference honors after winning their events on Monday. Senior Bridgett Pogodzinski won the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 17.26 seconds. Sophomore Sydney Falteisek placed first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.35 seconds. Finally, sophomore Sommer Brodhagen took the discus event, as her throw of 110 feet, two inches paced the field.

Brodhagen also added a second-team all-conference honor to her list of accolades, as she took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 32 feet, eight inches.

Honorable mentions for the girls’ team went out to Brodhagen in the 100-meter dash with a fourth place finish in 13.53 seconds, Falteisek in both the 100-meter hurdles, where she placed third with a time of 17.37 seconds and in the high jump, where she placed fourth with a height of four feet, eight inches, freshman Chloe Cihlar in both the 100-meter dash, where she placed third in 13.50 seconds, and the 200-meter dash, where she placed fifth with a time of 28.55 seconds, junior Isabella Aguilera in the discus, where her throw of 91 feet, four inches was good for sixth place, freshman Margo Pogodzinski in the shot put, where she placed sixth with a distance of 31 feet, nine-and-a-half inches and Iris Cruz in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.31.

Senior Ty Falteisek had two secondteam all-conference finishes for the boys team, taking second in both the 200-meter dash, which he finished in 22.88 seconds and in the 400-meter dash, which he finished in 51.88 seconds. He also had an honorable mention in the 100-meter dash, where he finished fourth with a time of 11.47 seconds.
