The Central Fire & EMS District responded to a fire on County Highway K, west of Unity on Friday, May 6, at around 4 p.m. The barn on the property was engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived and was eventually considered a total loss. The barn did not have any animals inside but contained farm equipment which was also considered a loss. The grass caught fire around the property and resulted in 2-3 acres of lawn being burnt. The barn collapsed and the owner of the property was treated on-scene for smoke inhalation but was not transported to a local hospital. Assisting Central Fire was the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Spencer Fire Department, Chili Fire Department, Stratford Fire Department, Loyal Fire Department and Owen-Withee Fire Department.
