Track teams ready for conference
Marathon will host the meet Monday

The Athens, Edgar, Marathon and Stratford varsity boys and girls track and field squads will compete at the Marawood Conference meet this Monday, May 16, at Marathon High School to become the next conference title teams.
Marawood Conference championship field events start at 4:30 p.m. and the track events begin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in Marathon.
The Edgar boys and Marathon girls won Marawood Conference championships last season. Will they be able to defend their conference titles or will there be newly-crowned Marawood Conference championship squads by the end of the night on Monday?
Could the Stratford boys, who won their home invite against Edgar and Athens on Thursday, become Marawood Conference champions for the first time in 20 years? Tiger sports fans will find out in a matter of days.
âCats sweep home meet
Edgarâs varsity boys and girls track and field teams defended their home track on Monday by both winning championships at the Dr. H.A. Schulz Invitational.
The Wildcat boys scored a total of 256 points, nearly three times more than the second-place Wisconsin Rapids Assumption Royals with 94. The Edgar girls accumulated 184 points, much better than second-place Assumption with 105.
Senior Everet Brehm won both the long and triple jumps, while sophomore Teegan Streit won both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles to help the Edgar boys capture the team championship.
The Weisenberger brothers, meanwhile, took turns winning the sprints. Sophomore Kohlbe Weisenberger captured the 100-meter dash championship in 11.82 seconds, while senior Ayden Weisenberger was second in 11.97. Ayden won the 200-meter dash in 23.96 seconds, while Kohlbe was second in 24.24. Ayden also won the high jump.
Edgar dominated the boy relay races. The 4x100-meter relay team of senior Mattison Butt and his younger brother, sophomore Karter Butt, along with junior Avery Normington and freshman Jase Apfelbeck won the event in 46.37 seconds.
The 4x100-meter throwers including seniors Jace Kohel and Parker Schutte, junior Carver Higgins and freshman Corey Koeppl won the championship in 51.98 seconds. Kohel won the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 10 inches and Higgins won the shot put with a toss of 39 feet, seven inches.
Edgarâs 4x200-meter relay squad of senior Everet Brehm, Normington, Karter Butt and Apfelbeck won the event in one minute, 37.18 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Mattison Butt, Brehm, Normington and Streit won the championship in three minutes, 40.77 seconds.
For the Edgar girls, junior Morgan Schnelle won both the 400-meter dash and long jump. Sophomore Brooke Imhoff, meanwhile, took first place in the triple jump and sophomore Amelia Gajewski was first in the pole vault. Junior Amber Skrzypcak won the 100-meter hurdles.
Edgarâs 4x100-meter relay team of junior Rachel Schneider, Skrzypcak, Imhoff and sophomore Malana Koehler won the event in 53.78 seconds.
Oriole Invite
Athensâ boy pole vaulters dominated the Stanley-Boyd Oriole Invite on Friday with top-three finishes in the event.
Senior Caden Decker captured the pole vault championship with a per- sonal record of 14 feet, six inches while senior Aiden Guralski was second with 12 feet, six inches and sophomore Ryan Peel third with 11 feet, six inches.
Athensâ 4x100-meter relay team of Decker, Guralski, Peel and junior Connor Komarek won the event in 48.28 seconds.
The Bluejay boys took seventh place and the girls were ninth at the Oriole Invite.
Vic Tree Invite
Marathonâs girls track and field squad captured the Waupaca âVic Treeâ Invitational on Thursday. Marathon tallied 144.5 points to outlast second- place Winneconne with 135.
Senior Jenna Aschbrenner won both the high jump and pole vault events. Junior Chloe LaValley, meanwhile, won the 100-meter hurdles and senior Julianna Thurs won the 3,200-meter run.
The Red Raidersâ 4,800-meter relay team of seniors Laci Hoeksema, McKinnley Marks and Thurs with freshman Shilo Blake won first place in 10 minutes, 48.56 seconds.
Marathonâs boys track and field team took third place in Waupaca. Junior Drake Carlson won the following wheelchair events: 100-meters in 23.81 seconds, 400 meters in one minute, 23 seconds and 800 meters in two minutes, 45.21 seconds and the shot put with 19 feet, 1-1/2 inches.
Juniors Matt Annis won the 400-meter dash in 52.67 seconds and Griffin Treankler won the 300-meter hurdles in 42.49.
The boys 4x400-meter relay of juniors Jaron Gage, Parker Mathwich, Annis and Treankler took first place in three minutes, 38.82 seconds.
Stratford Invite
The Stratford boys varsity track and field squad won their home invite with 149.5 points, much better than secondplace Auburndale with 108. Edgar placed third and Athens was sixth out of 11 teams.
Tigers junior Conner Weigel won the 400-meter dash in 53.59 seconds and sophomore Noah Lucio won the 800-meter run in two minutes, 10.32 seconds. Stratfordâs 4x800-meter relay team of senior Elijah Lucio, junior Lance Krieg, Noah Lucio and freshman Ethan Heeg took first place in nine minutes, 5.43 seconds.
For the Edgar boys, Teegan Streit won the triple jump with 40 feet, 11-3/4 inches. Two Wildcat boys relay teams won first place at the Stratford Invite. The 4x100-meter relay of Ayden and Kohlbe Weisenberger, along with Mattison and Karter Butt won the event in 46.12 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay of the Weisenberger brothers, Mattison Butt and Streit took first place in three minutes, 40.08 seconds.
For the Athens boys, senior Caden Decker won the pole vault with 13 feet and junior Aidan Janke won the shot put with 50 feet.
The Edgar girls finished the highest, third place, of any girls squad in The Record-Review coverage area at the Stratford Invite. Stratford placed fourth and Athens was seventh out of 11 teams.
Junior Morgan Schnelle of Edgar took first place in three sprints consisting of the 100-meter dash in 13.16 seconds, 200-meter dash in 27.32 and the 400-meter dash one minute, 3.53 seconds. Wildcat junior Amber Skrzypcak won the 100-meter hurdles in 17 seconds.
Stratford senior Jaidyn Wright took first place in both the long and triple jumps. She achieved a personal record in the long jump with 16 feet, 6-1/2 inches and she obtained 34 feet, 4-1/2 inches in the triple jump.
Junior Katlyn Schreiner was the highest Athens girl finisher by taking third place in the high jump with four feet, six inches.
Abbotsford meet
Aiden Janke of Athens won the boys shot put with a throw of 47 feet, six inches at the Abbotsford High School Open on May 3, while Katlyn Schreiner won the girls triple jump with 31 feet, 8-1/2 inches. Caden Decker took first place in the boys pole vault with 14 feet.
Edgarâs Morgan Schnelle won three girl events including the 100-meter dash in 12.87 seconds, 300-meter hurdles in 50.62 and the long jump with 15 feet, eight inches.
Wildcats senior Sophia Larson of Edgar took first place in the girls shot put with a toss of 33 feet, two inches. Amber Skrzypcak won the girls 100-meter hurdles in 17.17 seconds. Mattison Butt won the boys triple jump with 41 feet, 4-3/4 inches.
Jenna Aschbrenner of Marathon won both the pole vault with seven feet, six inches and the high jump with five feet, three inches. Red Raiders senior Alyssa Hall took first place in the girls discus with 99 feet, six inches.
Marathon senior Michael Kindlarski won the boys 110-meter hurdles in 16.12 seconds and Griffin Treankler won the boys 300-meter hurdles in 42.43.
Stratford May Opener
Both the Stratford boys and girls track and field teams took second place in the three-team Stratford May Opener on May 2.
For the Tiger boys, freshmen Garrett Zuelke own the 300-meter hurdles in 46.62 seconds and Xander Curtice the high jump with a leap of five feet, six inches. Sophomore Noah Lucio took first place in the 400-meter dash in 56.09 seconds and junior Lance Krieg was first in the 1,600-meter run in five minutes, 2.58 seconds.
The Stratford boys won two relays. The 4x200-meter relay team of seniors Noah Barrett and Darin Heeg, junior Conner Weigel and freshman Jett Schoenherr took first place in one minute, 38.02 seconds. The 4x400meter relay squad of Curtice, Schoenherr, Weigel and Zuelke took first place in three minutes, 46.67 seconds.
For the Stratford girls, freshman Breleigh Skaya won the 800-meter run in two minutes, 47.73 seconds and senior Jaidyn Wright won the triple jump with 35 feet, 1-1/2 inches.
A pair of Tiger girls relay squads took first place. The 4x200-meter relay of seniors Sarah Zuelke and Wright, sophomore Sadie Weigel and freshman Kassedey Downey won the event in two minutes, 63 seconds. The 4x400meter relay consisting of the same foursome of girls won the event in five minutes, 2.59 seconds.
