May 30 Honor Ride planned for The Highground
With the help of patriotic motorcyclists, The Highground will host its 12th Annual Honor Ride and Memorial Day Ceremony on May 30. In observance of Memorial Day, a recording of the names of more than 2,000 Wisconsin men and women who have given their lives in service to our country will be heard throughout the park beginning at 10 a.m.
The Honor Ride will begin in six different locations as early as 5:30 a.m. From Eau Claire, Neillsville, Appleton, Reedsburg, Richland Center and Minocqua, riders will enjoy the scenic ride to the American Legion Post #73 in Neillsville. Additional riders will be picked up at scheduled stops along the way.
The public is welcome to take part in a basket raffle at the Legion starting at 9 a.m. The drawings will be held at 1:15 p.m. Motorcycles will depart the Legion at 1:45 p.m, parading through Neillsville on their way to The Highground with the community showing their support and patriotism as the riders pass by. Dan Frandsen will join the parade with his patriotic painted mustang for the second year.
At The Highground, the Liberty Bell will ring as supporters welcome riders along the flag-lined road. The Liberty Bell will ring once more at 3 p.m. for the National Moment of Remembrance, marking the beginning of the Memorial Day ceremony. The Highground will welcome Army National Guard Veteran David Carlson, founder of C.C. We Adapt in Eau Claire, as the honored guest speaker.
All funds raised by the Honor Ride will help The Highground continue to improve its PTS/PTSD programs, Veterans Retreats and more which are provided to our Veterans and their families at no cost. These offerings along with the tranquility of The Highground and Camp Victory are part of the continuing mission to help heal the wounds of war.
The Highground continues to focus on all who visit by honoring those who protect and defend our freedom, educating all on what veterans have done for our country and providing a safe environment for healing.
