Village of Dorchester opens bids for fourth street project
The village of Dorchester received two closed bids for its Fourth Street project at their monthly meeting on May 4, 2022. The project will include replacing the road, curbs and fire hydrants.
The village of Dorchester opened the two bids, one from American Asphalt and the second from Steen’s Construction. The first bid was rated at $158,612.64, the second bid was priced at $164,332.74.
“Is that where we hoped to be at?” questioned village president Kurt Schwoch.
“I was expecting a lot higher,” said Director of Public Works Clint Penney. He expected the road to cost $40,000 more than what it figured out to be.
“I suggest finishing that street,” said Penney. The project will reach from Hwy. A to Fourth Avenue. Finishing the project would take them to the middle of the cemetery. “The additional $40,000 would reach us out to the county line,” said Penney.
“The price does not include excavation, base course materials, or miscellaneous patching,” Schwoch said.
“The village of Dorchester is going to be doing a lot of work as far as curb removal, replacement and fire hydrants,” said Penney. If there is any extra excavation, the village will also be taking care of it.
The village of Dorchester passed a motion to go with the American Asphalt bid. The next board meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 1.
