The Medford Area Chamber of Commerce will be paying more in rent to the city of Medford under the terms of a new rental agreement for the former library building used as the Chamber, tourism and economic development office. Under the new three-year lease, the rent will increase by $10 next year and $10 per year for the term of the lease. The Chamber currently pays the city $250 per month for use of the building. Money from the rent of the building is put into a designated fund to help pay for upkeep and repairs of the historic structure.

April 30,1997

A final vote on the selection of a logo for Medford Area Senior High will be held this Friday. High School students, along with seventh and eight-graders, teachers and staff, will be voting between the two finalists-the current Red Raider Indian logo and a Raider horse with rider design. Under a directive from the School Board, a Logo Task Force made up mostly of students, set up a credible process to “explore a wide variety of logos and nicknames that can proudly represent the Medford Area Public School District.”

May 4, 1972

The Wisconsin department of transportation’s division of highways has requested the federal highway administration for approval of the proposed design of highway 13 from a point about a mile south of Chelsea to near the Taylor-Price line. The project involves about 7.5 miles of construction. The state department has analyzed testimony given at a public hearing last October in Westboro. It has requested approval of essentially the same design, presented and recommended at the hearing. Information about the design, including maps, layouts, and sketches is available at the district office in Eau Claire.

May 1, 1947

In order that homemakers might get their equipment in readiness for the approaching canning season a series of nine clinics will be held during the next week at various places in Taylor County. Mrs. Gladys Gereau, Merrill, home supervisor for the Farmer’s Home Administration, and Miss Lois Olson, Taylor county home agent, will conduct all nine meetings.

100 YEARS AGO May 4, 1922

Personal notice has been served on the voters of the Joint School District No. 1 of the City and Town of Medford, of a special meeting to be held next Wednesday, May 10th at 8 o’clock, for the purpose of voting on the erection of new school buildings, borrowing money for same, etc. A copy of the official notice is published in full elsewhere in this paper.

125 YEARS AGO

May 8, 1897

Mr. N.K. Larson, of Mendota arrived in the city last Tuesday accompanied by a gentleman named Anderson from Dane county. The object of their visit was the inspection of our surrounding territory with a view to purchasing farm lands. Mr. Larson has been here before and is well pleased with Taylor county and will in a short time settle here.
