CCL May happenings
The Colby Community Library (CCL) is offering a variety of opportunities for the community in May. Stop in the library to see what is happening during the month.
Help the Friends of the CCL collect books and earn money. Donate gently used books through a book drive for literacy sponsored by Thrivent. Thrivent will pay for each book donated, up to 500 books, to the Friends of the CCL. Books will be collected starting May 2 through May 9. Drop books off at the CCL during regular library hours. If you are “sweet” enough to donate books, the first 80 people will receive a coupon to redeem at The Coffee Coop for a one-scoop ice cream treat.
If you miss this timeline for donating to the Thrivent sponsored project, Forward Bank is collecting books, movies, and puzzles for the Cheese Days Book Sale. Bring clean, salable items to Forward Bank during regular business hours now through July 1. No VHS, magazines, or Reader’s Digest Condensed Books. Do not bring moldy, torn, water damaged, or musty books. Also, before donating items from garage sales, price tags need to be removed.
The Friends of the CCL are sponsoring a Chair Affair Silent Auction in conjunction with the Outdoor Amphitheater Concert on Saturday, Aug. 13. The evening will feature food trucks, the band “Long Gone” and the Chair Affair Silent Auction.
If you are creative, pick up an old folding chair at the CCL beginning May 2 through May 20. The folding chair should be repurposed to be suitable for outdoor use as a garden or porch chair. Prime, paint, and seal the chair and return it to the library between July 25-27. (All entries must be family friendly in design and weatherproof.) The silent auction bidding will begin August 1 at the library and will continue until 8 p.m. at the Amphitheater concert on August 13. Winning bids will be announced that evening.
There will be a $100 Abby/Colby Chamber Certificate for the chair generating the highest bid. All bids will support the Friends of the CCL who assist with library expenses and programs.
“Take and Make” crafts for May include handprint flower pots, mosaic butterfl ies, and ice cream sticker scenes. Also, back by popular demand, are black velvet art posters.
The evening book club at the CCL will meet Tuesday, May 17 at 6 p.m. to discuss Michael Connelly’s book “The Black Box.” Sandy Larson will be the discussion leader. Members will decide on a year-end party location and date.
Summer Reading Program
“Oceans of Possibilities” is the summer reading program theme for 2022. Watch for details in brochures available mid-May or check for information on the Colby Community Library website and Facebook pages. There will also be an “Under the Sea” teen program this summer. Registration runs June 1 through June 11 for all youth ages 3-19. For those under the age of three, the CCL offers the 1000-4000 Books Before Kindergarten programs year-round.
The CCL will be closed for Memorial Day Saturday, May 28, through Monday, May 30. Beginning in June, the CCL will be open on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon for your convenience.
