Harriet Laabs

Harriet M. Laabs, age 92, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at The Waterford at Colby.

A funeral service will be held at Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Asafa will preside. Friends and family are welcome from 10 a.m. until the time of service at funeral home on Friday, May 13. Live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or the website.

Harriet was born on November 4, 1929, the daughter of Louis and Ida (Lube) Gosse in the town of Colby. She graduated from Colby High School and then attended Taylor County Normal School in Medford for two years to obtain her teaching degree. She roomed with a family and helped with their children while attending Normal School. She taught school for grades 1 thru 8 for seven years at a one room county school. She then worked for Bergstrom Garage for two years as a bookkeeper.

Harriet married Alfred Laabs November 29, 1952, and together they worked on their dairy farm until retirement September, 1994. Harriet enjoyed gardening, quilting, yoga exercise classes, polka dancing, reading, crafting, volunteering as a teacher’s aid in the later years and enjoyed coffee and tea with her friends.

Harriet is survived by her daughter: Nancy (Tom) Anen: two sons: David (Jane) Laabs, and Brian (Alison) Laabs; and four grandchildren: Travis (Kelsey), Tracy, Emma and Zoey; and two great-grandchildren: Rylie and Hunter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alfred, and her siblings: Anita, Viola, Herman, Melvin, Marion and Dorothy.
