Outdoor lifestyles
I would like to think winter puts everything on hold. But it necessarily doesn’t happen. With the cold weather our interests shift to things we can do during the winter time.
I’d say I’m an active fisherman. During the summer I go about every weekend and fish for several hours at a time. But when winter hits that totally changes, I don’t do any ice-fishing. I do not like being cold and it’s just not the same as regular fishing. Ice fishing you have an advantage; you can sit right on top of the fish and put the bait right in their face.
Regular fishing takes time and patience. I don’t have a boat so I fish off of shore. I have picked up my own techniques, like using two poles with the same bait, or different baits to see which one works better.
I usually fish for panfish, until two weekends ago when I started fishing for walleye. I didn’t catch anything. I went over by the Mosinee flowage, they have a dam just outside of town that is prime walleye fishing. You always see guys pulling fish into their boats.
I didn’t go by myself either, I brought along my little brother. We usually go fishing together unless he doesn’t want to. But he got a new fishing pole for Easter, so we had to try it, out of course.
I am currently waiting for my fishing spot to unfreeze, it is a pond by Lake Wausau. I slay bluegill there, catching sometimes up to ten fish, and good sized bluegill also.
I’m not going to tell you the name of the pond I go to, there’s already like hundreds of people that fish in this pond.
I don’t hunt, but I would like to. I only had the opportunity to go with my uncle when I first got my license. I shot a deer my first year out. It wasn’t very big, but I was still excited and happy.
I really enjoy the outdoors, I praise the people with outdoor jobs. It’s tough, but you get be outdoors all day.
In this society it’s really easy to get caught indoors. We have technology, media and entertainment to keep us occupied.
For the summer-time, I hope you can get outdoors as many times as you wish. I pray the weather allows us to do so.
The snow is crazy, and can’t believe it is snowing right now. I do remember in high school when we had snow all the way till May. We are lucky this year, I believe.
It seemed like this winter wasn’t as harsh as other ones. It was still rough, and definitely cold. But checking the energy bill and based on how much fuel oil we are putting in this year, I would call it a not so harsh year.
We had our blizzard and definitely fair share of shoveling this winter. I hope Mother Nature brightens up, and I know sports would like to stop rescheduling every game they have.
