Cheryl Redig
Cheryl J. Redig, age 63, of Colby, received her angel wings in the same month she brought both her daughters into this world. Cheryl passed away peacefully at her residence at the Colby Retirement Community on April 17, 2022.
Cheryl was born on November 11, 1958, to Elmer Sr. and Mary Ann (Buss) Redig. She was the second youngest child in a family of eleven (living) siblings. When Cheryl’s parents passed away she lived with her sister, Sharin, for a time before entering the foster care system. Her last foster family was with Richard and Kathleen Quast of Neillsville. They remained close for many years and were like second parents. Cheryl graduated from Loyal High School in 1976. She married Lee D. Miller Jr. on December 3, 1976, and had their first child the following April.
Cheryl worked as a medical assistant at the Neillsville Memorial Hospital until the family moved to Alma Center. When their second daughter was born in 1981, Cheryl left the workforce to care for her daughters. The family would later move to Greenwood where they farmed. She began working at Land O’Lakes in Spencer in 1989 and was employed there for 28 years until her retirement in 2017.
Cheryl and Lee divorced in 1996 and Cheryl resided in the Spencer and Loyal area for a time. She became a grandmother, or “granny” as Lucas called her, in 1997. Being a grandmother was one of the greatest joys in her life. Cheryl moved to Abbotsford to be closer to Shanna where she continued working at Land O’Lakes and providing full time day care for Lynsie’s children: Lucas, Collin and Lexus. Cheryl wouldn’t have traded that time with her grandkids for anything in the world. Cheryl’s health began to decline due to her diabetic related conditions and would begin living at the Colby Retirement Community in 2018. She was sad that she couldn’t care for her newest granddaughter Annalee, but enjoyed having visits with her as often as possible. Besides being a doting grandmother, Cheryl had enjoyed making crafts, crocheting, sewing blankets (the grandkids had a blanket for every holiday), making a variety of Christmas goodies every year, going on Saturday outings with Shanna and/or/including the grandkids to Amish auctions, restaurants, the movies or garage saling.
She will be dearly missed by her children: Shanna (Jason) Piech of Spencer and Lynsie (Dallas) Wiese of Abbotsford; and her grandchildren: Lucas (Tiffany Derrico) Miller of Stetsonville, Collin Tobias of Appleton, Lexus Edblom of Abbotsford, Kylee Wiese of Abbotsford and Annalee Piech of Spencer; eight siblings: Donna Bauer of Loyal, Lorna Mueller of Spencer, Elmer Redig, Jr. of Spencer, Darlene (Jody) Laib of Stafford, Texas, Joyce Davis of Trinity, Texas, Arvin Redig (Diana Neustedt) of Riplinger, Sharin Engevold of Spencer and Alan Redig of Spencer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandsons (miscarriage): Brandon and Justin Piech, her brother, Orin Redig, and her sister, Ruby Waldhauser.
Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is in charge of the arrangements and online condolences can be sent to www.maurinaschilling. com.
