Rib Lake improved in the field events and got some solid scoring on the track as well during Thursday’s Merrill Blue Jay Girls Indoor Invitational.

The Lady Redmen earned 54 points to place fifth out of seven teams. They beat D.C. Everest (34) and Waupaca (29). Wausau East won the meet with 135 points, followed by Wittenberg-Birnamwood (109), Edgar (107) and Merrill (91).

Sophomore Olivia Lopez had her second straight strong effort to open the season in the triple jump, winning it with a distance of 32 feet, 9 inches. She beat Edgar’s Rachel Schneider by 4.25 inches and Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Jalynn Horacek by 6.75 inches and Lopez beat her second-place at Marshfield from a week earlier by 21.5 inches.

Lopez added a fifth-place distance of 14-8.5 in the long jump, improving by almost 16 inches from a week earlier. Erin Bohmback was 16th for Rib Lake at 10-3. Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Reese Rogowski won the event at 16-5.

Megan Yanko went 4 inches higher and placed fourth in the high jump competition by clearing the bar at 4-6, while Tia Bube got her first mark of the year at 3-10, good for 10th. Yanko was one of three jumpers to hit 4-6. Wausau East’s Allyson Siikarla (5-0) and Wittenberg-Birnam- wood’s Faith Resch (4-10) were the only jumpers to go higher.

Senior Hannah Schuh got the eighthplace point in the shot put with a toss of 28-0.25, improving by 3 inches over her Marshfield distance. Grace Artz got 15 inches better and took 13th at 22-6 and Ziarra Schrader improved by 10 inches while taking 15th at 21-10.

On the track, senior Kylee Goodrich had Rib Lake’s highest finish, earning second place out of nine girls in the 800-meter run with her time of 3:08.45. Teammate Amy Espinoza was fifth in 3:23.94. Wausau East’s Ashley Bass won the race in 2:52.96. Goodrich also took fifth in the 1,600-meter run at 6:47.67, while teammate Leah Hoffland scored two points by taking seventh at 7:59.59. Merrill’s Elizabeth Schmidt easily won the race by a 52-second margin in 5:21.

Megan Yanko (7.28 seconds) and Amber Yanko (7.56) qualified for the 50-meter dash final. Megan took fifth in that race in 7.48 seconds, while Amber was at Raider Field. seventh at 7.56 seconds. Rogowski won in 6.8 seconds. Rib Lake’s Ryanna Schrader was 11th in the prelims at 7.66 seconds.

Megan Yanko added four points by taking fifth in the 200-meter dash at 31.89 seconds, while Bohmback was 19th in 49.53 seconds.

Bube made the final in the 50-meter hurdles with her preliminary time of 9.57 seconds. She took eighth in the final at 12.24 seconds. Edgar had the top two finishers in Amber Skrzpcak (8.96) and Malia Hoesly (9.06). Lopez had a 13th-place time of 10.28 seconds in the prelims.

Megan Yanko, Ryanna Schrader, Lopez and Amber Yanko placed fourth in the four-lap relay at 1:34.98 behind Wittenberg-Birnamwood (1:29.97), Edgar (1:31.16) and Wausau East (1:33.26). The Redmen finished ahead of D.C. Everest (1:36.53), Merrill (1:39.87) and Waupaca (1:43.73).

Rib Lake’s track teams are scheduled to open outdoor competition April 14 at Marathon.
