Catherine A. Poehnelt, 96, Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, Mar. 26, 2022 at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, Apr. 4 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 8:30 a.m. until service time. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook. com/ rembsfuneralhomes. Rev. James Weighner will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Catherine was born in Medford to Henry Joseph “Joe” and Mary (Foremski) Kraemer. She grew up on a dairy farm with her parents, Grandpa Nicholas Kraemer, and five siblings. She attended Frey school in the township of Browning through 8th grade; followed by Taylor County Normal School.

On June 5, 1948, she married William Frank Poehnelt at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Whittlesey. He preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2004.

Catherine was an elementary teacher in the Marshfield area for many years. She loved gardening, flowers, crafts, family camping trips, playing games with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

During their retirement Catherine and “Bill” loved traveling in their motorhome. In recent years she enjoyed trips to Medford with her sister Eileen to visit with family members and playing cards.

Catherine is survived by her four children, Robert Poehnelt, Marshfield, Mary (Gary) Frey, Holcombe, Daniel (Mary Barkow) Poehnelt, Marshfield, Terry (Kathryn Ortner) Poehnelt, Marshfield; her grandchildren, Tammy (Mark) Nelles, Jesse (fiancé Jenni) Frey, Quentin (Nadine) Poehnelt, Nicole Poehnelt, Justin (Alisha) Poehnelt, Jonathan (Page) Poehnelt; and her great-grandchildren Mariah, Madison, Tanner, Tyler, Logan, Payton, Damian, Tania, Whitney, Hayden, Alyvia, Emilee, Daniel, Xavier, Ryan, and Evan. She is further survived by Mary Ann Dassow (sister); Dorothy Kraemer (sister-in-law); Joann Fleischmann (step sister-in-law); Edward Leader (brother-in-law) and wife Connie; Tina Pillar (sisterin- law); and many nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; William Poehnelt (husband); Agnes Leader (sister), Henry Kraemer (brother) and his wife Loretta; Edward Kraemer (brother); Catherine Kraemer (sister- in-law); Eileen Rogers (sister) and her husband Jim Rogers; Tony Fleischmann (step-brother); Betty Fleischmann (step sister-in-law); and Harold Dassow (brother-in-law).
