Ryan Buehler won the 3,200-meter run and took second in the 800-meter race, the sprint relay teams both took second and Dominick Classen was third in the 50-meter dash to lead the Rib Lake Redmen Tuesday in the seven-team Merrill Blue Jays Boys Indoor Invitational.

Going up against some deeper squads, the Redmen held their own in the track events and finished the meet with 50 team points, enough to beat Marawood Conference rival Prentice (36). Edgar won the meet with 137 points, beating Merrill (113), Wausau East (100), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (84) and Waupaca (63).

Buehler, a junior, posted a time of 2:20.89 in his first 800-meter run of the indoor season and it was good enough to place second in a field of 15 runners. Only Wausau East’s Erek Ross was faster at 2:17.4. David Golisch of Merrill was third in 2:21.96 and Rib Lake freshman Elijah Scott was 14th at 2:58.01.

Buehler, who also won the two-mile race in Marshfield on March 22, claimed victory in the 3,200-meter run Tuesday with a time of 11:53.18. He beat Waupaca’s Ian Sherman (12:13.12) and Merrill’s Ian Schuetze (12:14.87). Scott was fifth for Rib Lake out of seven runners in the 1,600-meter race at 6:07.43. Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Craig Wendel won it in 5:23.41.

Classen, another junior, turned a fourth-place preliminary time of 6.51 seconds into a spot in the 50-meter dash final, where he bumped up to third with a time of 6.36 seconds. Only Phil Cooper of Wausau East (6.13) and Kohlbe Weisenberger of Edgar (6.3) were faster. Rib Lake’s Ethan Keiser (6.87) and Jayden Thums (7.62) were 12th and 17th in the preliminaries.

Keiser, Noah Wiitala, Ben Petersen and Classen took control early and won their heat of the eight-lap relay in 2:07.82. That wound up being good for second after Edgar won the second heat in 2:02. Not long after that in the four-lap relay, Edgar won the second heat and finished first overall in 1:20.26, while Rib Lake’s Keiser, Damien Peterson, Wiitala and Classen were next at 1:24.4, just ahead of Merrill (1:25.16).

Petersen added a seventh-place finish for Rib Lake in the 400-meter dash at 1:03.46. Peterson (29.94) and Thums (30.78) were 15th and 17th in the 200-meter dash preliminaries.

In the field, Theo Robisch was Rib Lake’s highest finisher, getting sixthplace points in the triple jump at 35 feet, 10 inches. Ev Brehm of Edgar won it at 41-7, 4 inches ahead of Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Simon Shairer. Peterson was 11th for Rib Lake at 31-5.75 and Xavier Johnson was 14th at 27-4.25. Robisch was 10th in the long jump at a much-improved distance of 16-5.5. Peterson was 15th at 15-5.5 and Johnson was 17th at 13-4, all better results than the previous week.

Rib Lake’s girls are scheduled to attend the girls meet in Merrill today, Thursday, at 4 p.m. From there it’s on to the outdoor season, starting with an April 14 meet at Marathon.
