DISTRICT 3 DISTRICT 3

Dave Roiger

I have lived in Taylor county all of my life with the exception of during my service with the Navy. I am widowed with four daughters, 12 grandchildren and one great grandson. I have enjoyed various careers such as logging, agriculture, construction, service work, real estate and factory work making me familiar with most all of Taylor County and many of it’s residents. I currently drive truck for a local trucking company and drive school bus in the Medford School District. I live in the city of Medford and represent the third district on the Medford City council. I am also the current representative for district three on the Taylor County Board of Supervisors.

Why do you want to serve on the County Board? I have always been interested in the workings of local government and serving on the County Board gives a person a chance to be involved in what it takes with all the many moving pieces that keep the county moving forward.

What do you think the biggest challenge facing the county over the next five years is and how would you address it?

Levy limits, dwindling state aid and unfunded mandates make it difficult to maintain the level of service the county can provide. Taylor County will need to work with the Wisconsin Counties Association and our Wisconsin legislators to come up with a better solution to fund the many services the state requires the county to provide.

How can the county help promote economic development and residential population growth especially in more rural portions of the county?

The county has taken a big step toward economic development and population growth in rural portions of the county with their broadband project. Affordable housing is a key factor in people deciding where to live and infrastructure and available workers are considerations for where a business decides to locate so we need to work with municipal governments and the Community Development Authority to move in the right direction.

Would you support a more formalized administrated leadership structure for county employees? Why or why not?

Yes, I would support a more formalized administrated leadership structure. County government has changed over the years to where we now have a multimillion dollar budget and skilled employees performing a wide variety of tasks to keep the County moving forward. I believe we need a person (either hired or elected by the citizens) that would be in charge of the day to day operations of the county to keep it running smoothly in the right direction.
