Warmer weather and construction Warmer weather and construction

What goes hand in hand like butter and toast? Well, the way the roads have been while driving. I would say warmer weather and road construction go hand in hand.

With the warm weather comes a chance for the road construction crews to fix all the potholes on the road. From Ross’s eyes there are three types of potholes: the teeth chatters, spine breakers and spleen busters.

I know I’ve seen some people from our towns helping out and filling potholes when they can. But it won’t only be potholes getting filled during the summertime. We will see a tremendous change on North Second Street in Colby. The City of Colby will be redoing two streets this summer, North Second Street and Community Drive.

I remember walking up and down that road getting to school and back everyday. It will be so pleasing to see one nice paved road, rather than having a dirt bike track.

I couldn’t tell you how many spine breakers there are on North Second Street where I grew up. The part of South Second Street that they redid in front of St. Mary’s is still in good condition and turned out very well. I used to skate on that road, because it was that nice.

The negatives of having road construction is trying to figure everything out for the citizens: where are they going to park, get mail and how to get the garbage out. Second Street for the most part can be substituted by: Third Street and Highway 13.

We will have a new road and that is what counts. After all that back breaking work from the construction crews we will be able to drive on a new road and feel the “ahh” from our vehicle tires.

North Second Street won’t only see the effects of a new road, but a new display as well. 80 trees will be lost in the process of the road being redone. It will be a tremendous change. During the fall that road is a beautiful sight to take in. I’m worried how everyone will respond to that.

It is sad to watch that many trees go. I’m worried how it will look after it is all finished. I like the idea of a new road, but all the trees leaves my heart with mixed feelings. Trees provide us fresh air and shade.

I do understand, though, why they are taking them out. The sidewalks get all bent out of shape from the trees uprooting. If they are going to put a new sidewalk in you don’t want it ruined. Having the trees out of the way will provide more accessibility to the road as well.

I hope they get all the potholes filled. I get teeth chattering everytime I hit a pothole in my vehicle. I hope the construction crews keep it safe. We don’t need any broken windshields.
