Abby moves on construction projects
Abbotsford’s city council gave the OK on a number of construction projects that will begin in the spring and completed during the summer.
After months of hammering out the details, bids and numbers, council members took the final steps in moving ahead on street and public works projects.
Among the projects and bids that were approved at Monday’s meeting was:
_ A bid in the amount of $312,192.81 to Francis Melvin Inc., for the Butternut Street reconstruction Fourth Avenue to Fifth Avenue (which includes the alley between W. Sycamore and W. Butternut) and sanitary sewer replacement from Third Avenue to Fourth Avenue.
_ A bid in the amount of $279,345.01 to American Asphalt of WI for asphalt paving and maintenance, which includes 11th Street, Hiline Avenie, Cedar Street, Ninth Street and Galvin Road.
_ The board passed an amendment to the agreement dated Nov. 10, 2021 and to allow MSA Professional Services, Inc. (MSA) to begin work on the Butternut Street Reconstruction Fourth Street to Fifth Street project.
The amendment was needed to the scope of the project changing, which includes the additional services of the alley between Third Ave and Fourth Ave., and its subsequent design and bidding, asphalt pavement maintenance design and bidding and construction administration and staking. The additional costs of these procedures will total $38,186.25. The alley design and bidding costing the city $11,036.25, the asphalt pavement maintenance design and bidding coming in at $2,050 for time and materials and the construction administration and staking requiring a lump sum of $25,100.
Work is expected to begin as soon as weather permits, with the project having an end date in Aug. 2022.
_ The board also approved the bid for the desing and construction of basketball and pickleball courts at Schilling Park, with the city awarding MSA the bid at a price of $15,600.
The city also authorized another bid with MSA for the Fifth Street reconstruction project at a cost of $46,500, with a tentative start date of March of 2022, and with a completion date no later than Dec., 2022.
_ The council approved the 2022 DNR agreement safe water drinking water funding application. MSA Services was awarded the $15,500 bid to prepare and submit the necessary paperwork. The lump sum fee for the application will be $12,500 for the new wells and well rehab application, $1,500 for an additional application for the city’s water tower and another $1,500 for an additional application for work on Cedar Street.
Other business
_ The council approved DPW Craig Stuttgen as the city of Abbotsford’s parking enforcer.
_ There will be a white goods collection on Saturday, June 26.
