Colby FFA introduces chapter’s new officers
The 2021-22 officers for the Colby FFA chapter has worked very hard this year to increase member involvement, and put the Colby FFA chapter back on the map.
“This team has done a great job leading their chapter and increasing student involvement,” says Colby FFA advisor Kiersten Rogowski. “They have brought back multiple activities and look forward growing the chapter for years to come.
This year’s president is Colby High senior Kya Viegut. Viegut has been a Colby FFA member for four years, and will attend UW - Stevens Point in the fall, where she will major in wildlife biology.
Viegut will also split her time as a 88M truck drive in the United States Army. Her favorite activity with the FFA has been pumpkin painting with fourth and fifth graders at Colby Elementary.
Trevor Ertl is this year’s vice president. A junior at Colby High, Ertl has been active with Colby’s FFA chapter for the past five years.
Ertl hopes to take over the family farm once he graduates from Colby High next year. Ertl’s family owns and operates a 100 cow dairy farm and runs one thousand acres of cash crops.
Ertl lists attending the World Dairy Expo amonst his favorite experiences as a member of the Colby FFA.
Sophomore Jazmyn Heeg is this year’s Colby FFA treasurer. Heeg has been with the Colby FFA for two years, and wishes to attend UW - River Falls when she graduates in 2024.
Heeg will then major in Dairy Science, and has enjoyed her time with the National FFA Week the most. Her hobbies and interests include showing dairy cattle and hunting and working on her family’s farm in between being a member of Colby High’s track and field and volleyball programs.
Ella Raatz is one of three freshmen offi cers for the 2021-22 edition of the Colby FFA chapter. Raatz is the Colby FFA secretary, and has been a FFA member for three years, and like Heeg, wishes to study a dairy related field at UW - River Falls when she graduates.
Raatz has won multiple awards at dairy shows, and enjoys attending any of the state’s numerous FFA leadership conferences.
Freshman Kalea Liedberg is the Colby FFA reporter this year. Liedberg has been with the Colby FFA program for three years. She hopes to attend college to become a veterinarian technician.
Her favorite events with the Colby FFA thus far has been the alumni hayride and bonfire. She spends her free time snowmobiling, four wheeling, boating and working on her family’s farm.
Megan Kosik is a freshman at Colby High, and is the Colby FFA chapter’s student advisor. Kosik has been with the Colby FFA for three years now, and cites the Half-Time Conference as her favorite FFA event.
In between playing softball and volleyball for the Colby Hornets, Kosik is active in 4-H, showing at county fairs, hunting, photography and working on her family’s farm.
