Program helps recognize who those give of themselves
Students at Medford Area Senior High School are reaching out to thank those in the community who give of themselves.
The Our Coffee Literacy program is offering a CARES Cup of Coffee with Compassion Note to say thank you to those who give throughout the community.
“We are fortunate in our local community to have individuals who give so much in their professions whether as nurses, school staff, police, fire fighters, health care workers, social workers, domestic violence shelter care, emergency responders, hope hospice, and more,” said Joe Greget, pupil services director at Medford Area Public School District.
Coffee Literacy is a collaboration among MASH Special Students for a Service Learning Project, Taylor County Literacy Council, and Coffee Community Partners.
Greget explained the program began through Aspirus Nurses being featured for all their extra efforts in this pandemic.
“We wanted to recognize them and all of the wonderful staff in our schools and community we have,” Greget said.
The concept of “People love to drink coffee” as a thank you was mentioned, leading to Medford Area Senior High School students wanting to help through a Service Learning Project.
The Taylor County Literacy Council got involved because the group helps promote mental health literacy and the Community Coffee Partners donated coupons, and then the program of Coffee Literacy was begun.
“Thank you to our Coffee Literacy Coffee Partners who donated coffee from MASH Raider Cafe, McDonalds, Uncommon Ground, Hardees, and Kwik Trip,” Greget said.
