1936-2022
Gerald (Jerry) Thomas Riegert, of Tilden, died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at the age of 85. There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, March 4, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Tilden. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with Mass and luncheon to follow. Interment for Gerald and Kathleen Riegert will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
Jerry was born April 17, 1936, in Stetsonville, the second of seven children born to Joseph and Irene (Schneider) Riegert. On July 9, 1960, he married the love of his life, Kathleen L. McDonald. Together they had three children, Renee, Roxanne, and Kelly. He was a devoted family man, friend and employee.
After graduation from Medford High School in 1954, he served in the Marine Corp as a communication specialist in Japan. After his discharge he worked at the Medford Telephone Company. In 1967, he started a career as an artificial inseminator in the Cornell area for Midwest Breeders/21st Century Genetics until his retirement in 2001.
He sought happiness through experiences, in his younger years often exclaiming “This is Really Livin’!”, while boating, snowmobiling, fishing or traveling. He enjoyed dancing, playing card games and spending time with his family.
Jerry is survived by his three daughters, Renee Wurzer of St. Louis, Mo., Roxanne (George) Komanec of Bloomer, Kelly Thompson of Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Amy (Mike), Bryan (Kathryn), Alexandra, Jerald (J.T.), Kennedy and Cody; eight great-grandchildren, Avery, Cannon, Jaxyn, Milaney, Abygail, Rexlynn, Vivienne and Fynleigh.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Irene Riegert; wife, Kathleen; granddaughter, Krystal; son-in-law, Leon Wurzer; and sister, Lois Wimmer.
