Betty Shereda
1930-2022
Betty Shereda, 91, passed away on Feb. 3, 2022. The family will hold a memorial service and celebration of her life in June, details to follow. She was born Betty Marti on Sept. 19, 1930 in Stetsonville, to Emil and Alma (née Liepert) Marti. She attended Medford High School, graduating in 1948. Betty met the love of her life, Patrick Shereda, with whom she celebrated 68 years of marriage before his death in 2016.
Betty was a wonderful homemaker and loving and thoughtful mother and friend to her children. In her “spare” time, she enjoyed golfing, pursued arts and crafts, gardening, worked part time as a florist, and was an accomplished seamstress making everything from quilts to wedding gowns to evening gowns, some of the latter of which were worn by the Medford participants in the Miss Wisconsin pageant. She also was instrumental in bringing classical music performances to the community with the Performing Arts. Betty was highly engaged in politics and the Holy Rosary faith community. In her later years, she and Pat volunteered for hospice, serving on the board of Hope Hospice for many years. One of her favorite poems was by Robert Frost, the ending of which well defined her life philosophy, “The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.” Betty shone a bright light on the world and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by one sister, six children, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; eldest son, David; and grandchild, Deanna.
Memorial donations in honor of Betty can be given to Hope Hospice, 537 W Broadway Ave., Medford, WI 54451, 715.748.3434 (hhospice.com). Online condolences can be left at www.hemerfuneralservice.com.
