The Hornets opened up on a 16-4 run. Kya Viegut and Brett Schmitt led the Colby charge in the first half, scoring 13 and seven points. The Hornets held a 32-22 lead at halftime.

Viegut continued to connect from three in the second half, snapping off a third triple as she led all players with 18 points. Colby led by as much as 17 points in the second half, but a scoring drought prevented Colby from extending the lead.

The Hornets trailed early on in the first half but bounced back to tie things up at 20-20 with 6:32 to play. Colby put together a terrific 15-5 run over the last five minutes to go into the break up 41-28, but the Hornets took their foot off the gas and allowed the Greyhounds to grind down the Hornets’ lead.

A lot of things happened, but composure was completely lost.”

Trisha Vanderhoof led the Hornets with 11 points, and Hayden Willner and Kylie Orth each scored ten points. Savana Thomsen finished with eight points, Alexis Vanderhoof had seven and Olivia Krause added six points.

Harrison Schmitt finished with four points, Angelique Hernandez tallied three points and Kya Viegut was held to two points.

Colby’s next game is not until Tuesday, Feb. 8. The Hornets will travel to Neillsville for a 7:15 p.m. game.
