Grace Diane Pope
1948-2021
Grace Diane Pope, age 73, of Stetsonville, passed away unexpectedly just before midnight, Monday, Dec. 20, 2021. A celebration of Grace’s life will be announced and held at a later date. Grace was born April 8, 1948 in the town of Browning to Louis Lichtl Sr. and Lydia Blanch (Janko) Lichtl. She attended Birchwood elementary and later graduated from Medford High School. She was a member of the Royal Rough Riders Horse Club, where she met the love of her life, Dennis Ray Pope. They were married on Grace’s 19th birthday, April 8, 1967 at Community Evangelical United Church of Christ, Medford.
During her time with the Royal Rough Riders she enjoyed gaming her blind horse, Red Pharaoh. Through the years Grace and Dennis raised pinto horses along with other farm animals. She also raised Australian Shepherds, small poodles, and for a short time, Himalayan Cats.
Grace was a homemaker most of her life and a member of a homemakers club for a while. She loved gardening, canning, baking, crafting, and art. Things for the home however were not her only interests. She also loved music, nature, and the outdoors, along with hunting and fishing As a past member of 4-H along with her never ending love of learning she rejoined 4-H as a project leader while her children were members. Picking up new hobbies along the way including, photography and wood burning. All through her life she retained her love for art and crafting. She never stopped looking ahead to her next project or art adventure.
Grace is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dennis Pope of Stetsonville; children, Clint Pope (JC Hoffman) of Owen, Crystal (Harold) Mathews of Medford, and Cody (Georgia) Pope of Eau Claire. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Chelsea (Adam) Skwierczynski of Spencer, Veronica and Isabelle Mathews, Myka, Aya, Loki, and Tiabeanie Pope and step-grandchild, Neveah Hoffman; along with her siblings, Violet (Eugene) Jensen of Medford, Kenny (Peggy) Lichtl of Medford, Pam (Bill) Leader of Medford, and sister-in-law Narda Lichtl of Medford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Louis V. Lichtl Jr.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be given to the family for a future designation.
