Irene Bomback Irene Bomback

Irene S. Bomback, 97, Greenwood, entered eternal rest on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, surrounded by her children at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield. Memorial services will be held at a later date due to COVID concerns.

Pastor Elizabeth Bier will officiate on April 9, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood.

Irene was born on Oct. 30, 1924, the daughter of Benhart Severson and Helen Moe. Irene was born in Blanchardville and moved to Greenwood at the age of 4. She was educated in the Greenwood Schools. On March 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Edward P. Bomback, in Neillsville. Her husband was drafted into World War II during the first few years of their marriage. She was employed at a catalog factory in Chicago and Cutler & Hammer Co. in Milwaukee for several years before they moved to the family farm in Willard in July 1954, where they farmed until 1973. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and belonged to E.L.C.A. and the quilting group. She did home care work for the elderly in her community. She was a great cook and worked hard on the farm raising four children. When family would stop by she never hesitated to prepare a meal for them. She loved a great conversation with a good cup of coffee. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, crafts, flowers, listening to music and playing cards. After 62 years on the farm she moved into the Black River Apartments in Greenwood in August 2016 and created many friendships. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. A life well-lived and forever in our hearts. Irene is lovingly survived by her children: Edward D. Bomback of New Berlin, Joanne (Jeff) Binder of Hewitt, Audrey Bomback of Milwaukee, and Garry (Elaine) Bomback of Necedah; her grandchildren: Erica (Jeremy) Hischke, Derek (Kylee) Binder, and Cassie (Luke) Vandenberg; a great-grandchild, Roland Vandenberg; her step-grandchildren: Jenny (Joe) Fountain and Scott Grant; her step-greatgrandchildren: Samantha, Becky, Devin, Abigail and Dane; her sisters: Ruth (Chuck Horvat) Stroud, Dorothy Miller and Shirley (Ron) Schardt; and nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents: Benhart and Helen Severson; her husband, Edward; her siblings: Robert Severson, Bernard Severson, Darlene Trunkel, and Rosella Dergance; a daughter-in-law, Carol Bomback; a grandchild, Chad Bomback; and a niece, Donna Trunkel.

Those wishing to express their sympathy are encouraged to do so to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Greenwood or The Highground in Neillsville.
