RIB LAKE BOYS BASKETBALL

The Rib Lake Redmen got Phillips to turn the basketball over and shoot it poorly, leading to a 51-41 home win in Tuesday’s season and Marawood North opener.

While the first game won’t go down as an offensive masterpiece for Rib Lake either, as the Redmen turned the ball over 24 times, the Redmen did well when they did control the basketball, scoring 30 points in the paint and making 18 of 28 two-point shots. Overall, the Redmen shot a solid 51.2% from the field (21 of 51) to break a three-game losing streak to the Loggers the team endured last winter.

Phillips, on the other hand, had 30 turnovers in its first game of the season and made just 14 of 48 shots overall from the field, including just eight of 31 twopoint shots. Rib Lake was able to offset a 36 25 rebounding advantage for the Loggers, which included 19 offensive rebounds by the visitors. Senior Jordan Yanko had a big night for the Redmen, hitting all five of his shots from the field while scoring a varsity careerhigh 13 points. He added seven rebounds, five of which came on the defensive end.

Senior Logan Blomberg was two of three from 3-point range and five of eight overall from the field while scoring 12 points. He had two assists and two rebounds.

The Redmen had several contributors after that. Jackson Blomberg hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points off the bench. Tanner Vlach had four of Rib Lake’s 12 steals and scored six points. Sam Gumz had five points, three rebounds and two steals.

Guard Andrew Wudi had four points, three rebounds and two assists. Trey Klemann and Michael Borchardt scored two points apiece. Borchardt had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Dawson Hauschild, one of just three seniors on Phillips’ varsity roster, led the Loggers with 14 points. He hit four of seven 3-point shots. The Loggers finished six of 17 from downtown. He also had six rebounds. Nate Belan added 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Rib Lake is back in action tonight, Thursday, visiting an Edgar that dropped its Marawood South opener Tuesday 7846 to Newman Catholic. Rib Lake will host Owen-Withee Monday in non-conference play before hosting Marathon Dec. 9 in another Marawood Conference crossover. Marathon beat Auburndale 70-62 in its opener Tuesday.
